I went to see Dr. Richards after dealing with debilitating headaches since 2007. Five years ago I was diagnosed with Intracranial Hypertension. Until now I was on meds and frequent lumbar punctures to drain excess spinal fluid. I came to Dr. Richards because a lumboperitoneal shunt was needed. I was scared and nervous. On the day of surgery, the entire staff was kind and understanding of my nerves. When Dr Ricahrds came to see me in pre-op I voiced my concerns about the surgical pain afterward and he was honest and upfront about the pain I would have and that he promised to take care of that for me with good pain meds. My surgery was two weeks ago so I cannot say that my headaches I was having prior to surgery are completely gone but I will say that it is considerably better. Dr Richards is the kind of surgeon that you want for you or your loved ones. He takes time to answer all of your concerns and questions. He is so sweet, kind-hearted, intelligent, warm, and comforting. I will most

Well, I can't share the whole story in great detail because not enough space- here's the short version: Richards put a VP shunt in while I had diastasis recti. My shunt was never going to be stable. It broke 3 times- the last time I spent almost a year begging him for help before my shunt ripped out of the back of my skull. He decided to cover his own butt and say that my opening pressure of 16- while I was unconscious, on my stomach, and my shunt still set to 6 and draining making for an artificially low opening pressure- was that I no longer have a pressure issue. Seriously- other doctors- call him out. You should know better!! And I'm just not really able to share how horrific my experience with this has been....

When Dr. Richards encouraged me to visit a public review site, such as this one, to assist other patients even before my scheduled surgery, I felt my health and well-being were his priority. He clearly wants the best outcome for his patients. I had a lumbar microdiscectomy in May, 2019. Nearly three months post-surgery, I can say my recovery was pain free and my overall health has greatly improved due to my increased activity level and complete elimination of pain. The staff and overall office environment were helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly. I would highly recommend Dr. Richards and Michigan Spine and Brain Surgeons.

Not good. He is one his third(3) assistant since Feb 2019. Never returns a phone calls, take months for appointments. Even when you just had surgery. Seems like he wants to do a lot of surgeries, but has very little time for his patients after their surgeries. Very disappointed.

I was very nervous about having my spinal cord stimulator replaced. The doctor, who originally implanted my first stimulator, no longer performed surgery. Dr Richards made me comfortable from the very start! He is extremely knowledgeable & a very calming nature. I immediately knew I was going to be in great hands! On the day of surgery, he came into my room & spent quality time with my husband & I! I formerly worked in an Operating Room. Many of the surgeons I had worked with did not spend ve

As a health professional myself, I reviewed, got recommendations from the surgical community, and am more than pleased with the quality of health care I received from Dr. Richards and his staff. My surgery went uneventfully and after many failed conservative treatments by other providers, I awoke from anesthesia completely pain free. Dr. Richards exceptional surgical skill is only surpassed by his genuine concern for each patient. I recommend him highly and have already done so many times.

Two doctors from separate offices, highly recommended Doctor Richards to me to do my spinal surgery. I did my research and learned that he is the best! He has an easy going personality which I loved. After research on my own, I felt like I was in extremely capable hands. He has great people skills taking his time explaining to me every aspect of my surgery. I never felt he was in a hurry with me to get to his next patient. My surgery was a huge success and I'm excited for my future.

Dr. Boyd Richards was very professional, compassionate and attentive with my care. My surgery was extremely successful and uncomplicated. I have no regrets and would definitely recommend him to anyone requiring his specialty. His office staff was extremely helpful with my surgical scheduling and loads of paperwork that needed to be completed for my short term disability requirements. I cannot thank him and his staff enough for making my quality of life much better.

Dr. Richards is the most caring and compassionate doctor I've seen. He answered all of my questions and spoke to me like a real person. This, unfortunately is somewhat rare when visiting a doctor these days. Dr. Richards was not in a rush to get me out of his office and on my way. I have total trust in his assessment of my condition and the surgery he has recommended. I am so glad that I chose Dr. Richards as my neurosurgeon.

Dr Richards performed a laminectomy decompression and fusion on my father. Being a rehab RN and knowledgeable of the procedure to be performed I was worried to say the least for the well being of my elderly father. Dr Richards was fanominal with his approach and his “bedside “ manner was impeccable. While being honest about the outcomes he placed us at ease and my father came through the surgery better than expected. He was thoughtful and kind and would highly recommend him.
