Dr. Bhupendra C. Patel, MD says

You will see that we have one of the highest ratings on patient survey scores earned through hard work and with an incredible team which includes Jill, Dena, Mike, Patricia, Todd, Megan, Stacy, the incomparable Diana and many others. Not least is the team of experts we surround ourselves with so that, if needed, we have knowledge of the best surgeons and physicians-who happen to be part of our extended team!

We always take feedback into account and regularly make changes in our clinics and surgery: to that end, patients have been delighted with the level of care provided by Prof. BCK Patel and his team, attention to detail and desire to perform superlatively that they observe and experience.

As we give as much time as is needed by each patients, we will occasionally keep some of our patients waiting a bit! Although we apologize for this, we also remember that when it is our turn, we want the surgeon and his team to take as much time as is necessary to provide us with the best care.

    Conditions Treated

    Dr. Patel says..

We have developed numerous surgical techniques in cosmetic and reconstructive surgery which are taught to surgeons the world over. Particular contributions include advanced techniques in endoscopic brow lifts, cosmetic upper and lower blepharoplasty, a unique way to perform mid face lifts, and our techniques of facelifts which gives very natural results, for which patients come to us from all over the world.

Blepharospasm patients are treated with our unique approach withf botox and dysport, and we have modified the surgical approach to give an improvement in the spasms, whilst maintaining an excellent cosmetic outcome.

Our thyroid patients are treated with especial care since the change in the appearance of the face bothers all our patients. We design surgical techniques individually: using our described technique of orbital decompression and soft tissue repositioning, we obtain excellent results for which patients come to us from all over the world.

    Our approach: perfection!

Being trained in general surgery, plastic surgery, ophthalmology and facial and orbital plastic surgery with further training in lacrimal, eyelid and socket surgery led to one of the longest training periods undertaken by any surgeon at the University (and indeed anywhere!). This gives us a unique perspective to presenting problems, and also provides options to patients that are available because of the wealth of this training and careful attention to detail.

We frequently see patients for second, third and fourth opinions! We provide opinions to patients seeking such opinions, as well as to other surgeons who ask us to see patients from the whole of the United States and overseas.

For fellow physicians, nurses and medical personnel needing treatments, we make a particular effort to accommodate their busy schedules, as, indeed we do for other patients. If you need to be seen after hours or on a Saturday, we make every effort to accommodate you.

    Why Does Experience Matter?

Even specialists specialize. One orthopedic surgeon might do nothing but hip surgeries, while another does nothing but knees. If you want the best possible care, it’s critical to match your medical need with the doctor who truly specializes in treating it.

Overview of Expertise, Research & Medical Interests:

    • -Prof. Patel did extended postgraduate fellowships in Europe and in the United States and trained with some of the best surgeons in the world.
    • -Prof. Patel's expertise is in the management of disorders involving eyelids, periorbital tissues, lacrimal system and facial bones including fractures and in all cosmetic procedures of the face. He has designed and refined several surgical procedures and instruments. His clinical research interests include thyroid disease, optic nerve disorders, orbital and eyelid tumors, blepharospasm, lacrimal surgery and facial cosmetic surgery.
    • -He has developed and published many cosmetic facial surgical procedures, including procedures for the brows, upper and lower eyelids, cheeks and the lower face and neck.
    • -The division has been a pioneer in research and development of techniques for the management of ocular and facial disorders, orbital malpositions, thyroid eye disease, optic nerve surgery, lacrimal problems and tearing, eyelid and orbital tumors, and the treatment of orbital and facial fractures.
    • -The division developed the use of Botulinum toxin which is also used in the treatment of facial wrinkles and frown lines.
    •  -Many of the cosmetic and reconstructive surgical procedures utilized have been developed by the division including ptosis repair, upper blephs, endoscopic brow elevation, transconjunctival lower blephs, modified face and neck lifts and fat grafts to the face for cosmetic and reconstructive purposes.
    • -Small incision endoscopic brow elevation and midface lifts allow aesthetic improvement in many patients who previously would not have been candidates for surgery.
    • -Procedures including chin and cheek augmentation and facial liposculpture are directed at restoring, and enhancing the architecture and support of the face and eyelids; procedures that remove supportive structures are avoided.
    • -Laser resurfacing techniques for aging changes are utilized by the division and give less postoperative redness and faster healing. Many other lasers are used to treat everything from wrinkles to pigment spots to abnormal vessels and to tighten facial and neck skin and underlying structures.
    • -Management of some complex disorders and injuries require collaboration with specialists from throughout the Health Sciences Center.
    • -Prof. Patel sees patients from all over the United States and overseas.
    • -A substantial portion of our practice is the correction of complications of reconstructive and cosmetic surgery. Prof. Patel is available for second (and third!) opinion to patients and surgeons alike.
    • -For medico-legal review and opinions, and for Worker's Compensation case review, please contact us to arrange an appointment.
    • -For patients from afar, virtual consultations can be arranged. Please contact us for details.
    • -Prof. Patel has published over a hundred peer-reviewed scholarly articles, designed surgical instruments, developed surgical techniques, lectured and performed demonstration and/or charitable surgery in over 48 countries, written more than 20 books and book chapters and trained over one hundred fellows from all five continents in plastic and reconstructive surgery of the face. He strives to teach the next generation of surgeons to aim not only to be better, but be at least as compassionate to our patients as our teachers.
