Prior to leading the Charlotte program, he was associate professor of surgery and the surgical director of the pediatric cardiac surgery program at The University of Virginia .He received his medical degree from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville, Tennessee; completed a residency in genera lsurgery at Vanderbilt University Medical Center; and completed three fellowships – in thoracic and cardiovascular surgery, as well as vascular surgery at the University of Virginia Health Sciences Center and in pediatric cardiothoracic surgery, at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta-Egleston and the Emory University School of Medicine.He received the Co-Leadership Award and multiple quality awards from the Sanger Heart and Vascular Institute/Carolinas Healthcare System. Additionally, he won the Dean's Award for Clinical Excellence from the University of Virginia School of Medicine. He is a member of the American Association for Thoracic Surgery, Congenital Heart Surgeon's Society, Society of Thoracic Surgeons, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and he is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.Read more
