I am an orthopedic and spine surgeon specializing in minimally invasive spine surgery. My special interests include treating adult deformities, scoliosis, sciatica, degenerative spinal conditions and disorders, infection, trauma and tumors, using the latest and most innovative surgical techniques. I am fellowship-trained in spine surgery, and trained under world-renowned spine surgeon Steven Garfin, MD. During fellowship, I provided orthopedic care to athletes on the US Olympic team, UCSD Tritons and the San Diego Chargers. I also served as a volunteer surgeon after the 2010 earthquake in Haiti, where I treated some of the most rare and complex orthopedic injuries and deformities.

My experience was awesome. Dr. Chen was one of the most caring, empathetic Dr's I've seen in a long time. I felt he was knowledgeable and experienced in his field and although he was unable to help me I was very satisfied with the outcome of the appointment.
Tacoma, WA |
After surgery, which was very easy, my office visits with him were challenging. He lied to my wife and I twice. He told me I was ready to go back to work even though my regular physician told me I could do irreparable damage to my injury. When I showed Dr. (and I use that term loosely) Chen a new MRI which clearly showed I could not go to work, I asked him again..Should I go to work like this? he didn't answer, he just sat there. then told me to see another Dr. He all about the paycheck.
Enumclaw, WA |
One of the nicest physicians I've met. He was a great listener and validated my concerns and complaints. He took time to explain the plan and allowed me and my husband time to ask questions.
in Onalaska,WA |
Dr. Ben Chen has been a wonderful doctor, cautious, caring and very patient. He explained options for surgery and tried several different remedies prior to recommending surgery. He found the reason for pain and after I was suffering 1+ years of increased pain with other doctors, I am scheduled for surgery to remedy my back/leg pain! I absolutely have faith in him and his staff is wonderful.
in Bonney Lake, WA |
I saw Dr. Chen a few weeks ago for a severely pinched nerve in my lower back. I had seen several doctors over the past 9 months that wouldn't even look at my case. Dr. Chen was very willing to listen to me and gave me answers. He explained the diagnosis clearly and explained what the options were. He was very easy to talk to and answered every question I had. He didn't rush through the appointment like most doctors do. I highly recommend Dr. Chen!
in Federal Way, WA |
Dr.Chen is one of the worst Doctors I have seen. He is looking for easy obvious cases to work on and if you're not one of those, you're out! He flip-flops on his diagnosis and his answers. He doesn't want to hear anything from you about your symptoms. He is just looking for something completely obvious on the MRI. Since my MRI didn't show anything obvious I was treated like I was lying about my symptoms. He is extremely impatient and overbooked. I was truly shocked at his lack of empathy!
