Shirkey, MD completed her residency at the Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital in New York; was the recipient of a Duke University Eye Center Fellowship, and has been honored by the National Eye Institute as a Howard Hughes Research Scholar. She was the Fellowship Director of Vitreoretinal Surgery and Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of Arizona Medical School in Phoenix. She is listed in the 2014 Edition of "America's Top Ophthalmologists.""
