Went there for cataract assessment and 2nd opinion on a condition in R eye (superior limbic keratitis-SLK). Spent 3 hours with tech getting various pictures of my eyes. Spent less than 15 minutes with Dr. Ambati, who seems very knowledgeable and has excellent communication skills. I felt the exam was very thorough and in the final analysis it appears that Dt. Ambati would be an excellent surgeon to do my cataracts. However, his treatment recommendation for my SLK was not satisfactory. I was given a paper prescription and told to seek a compounding pharmacy to make silver nitrate solution. Unfortunately, no one had it available and pharmacies that Dr. Ambati said would have it was not inaccurate. A few compounders across the country were willing to order it, but it would cost upwards of $300 plus shipping and not covered by insurance. I question the ethical responsibility of prescribing a treatment for a patient that is not readily available and not affordable or covered by insurance.

Dr. Bala Ambati is a rare prodigy. Research his accomplishments online (wikipedia or one of his lectures) before you entrust someone with your vision. Dr Ambati made history as the youngest licensed Dr in history (17 yrs old), published a research book on HIV at 11 with his brother, performs eye surgery in underdeveloped countries where they don't usually have access to it, donated a kidney to a teenager- the list goes on. We don't often have access to walk among people like this. It was worth the money just to meet and interact with him. The 20/15 vision after the lasik ($5k for everything) procedure was just a bonus.

Dr. Ambati recently did my lasik surgery and my vision is even better than when I wore my glasses! I’ve had no complications and am in love with my new vision! I had the pleasure of working with Dr. Ambati at Eugene Eye Care and can say without a doubt he is one of the most professional and kindest people I have met. He is wise and very thorough. You won’t regret choosing him as your Doctor! Thank you, Dr. Ambati for fixing my vision!

Dr. Ambati is the best, he did both lens replacements for me. He is both informative and pleasant to deal with. Caring, with an ability to place one at ease, he makes a very nerve racking procedure much more easy to go through. Describing Dr. Ambati as an angel is easy to do. I wouldn't think of going to anyone else.

Dr Ambadi saved my life twice. He got me of the very dangerous drug Gabapentin ( was taking 3600 mg a day!) This drug is addictive and can cause depression & Suicidal thoughts. It was the worst time in my life. The withdrawal literally almost killed me. He was there for me and it was over 6 months before my brain was able to rewire itself. He was with me through all of it. He found a blood clot behind my right eyeball before it went to my brain. My PCP said it could have killed me. Dr Ambati is smart intelligent and kind. If you need an ophthalmologist Dr Ambati is the BEST in his field!

I have nothing but FANTASTIC things to say about Dr. Ambati and his staff! I got Lasik eye surgery from him 3 days ago. I wore glasses for 30 years, hated every minute of it, and in less than 10 minutes Dr. Ambati gave me my vision back! And 20/15 even! His staff was friendly and personable, receptive to questions and eager to provide answers. Dr. Ambati himself is where my experience really shined, he's the nicest surgeon I have ever met! Soft spoken, intelligent, steady voice and steady hands, the attributes you want in someone who's going to perform eye surgery on you. I was at ease my entire time from start to finish, he made sure I was relaxed with medication and numb with eye drops, at no point did we have a single issue or hiccup. Post op appointment went well, I have been using the drops they gave me and everything has been going perfect! I wake up every day now and I can see my wife and kids without having to search for clunky glasses. YOU GUYS ROCK!!!

Dr. Ambati was very kind and helpful after I had a negative experience with another ophthalmologist/clinic in Eugene. The other doctor had left me without answers or assistance after complications following cataract surgery. Without criticism of the other doctor, Dr. Ambati was very professional in helping me with the complication. He listened attentively, was courteous and empathetic. Dr. Ambati performed the cataract surgery on my other eye. He was professional and courteous throughout the complete process of surgery and follow-up. Contrary to my previous experience, I had no pain following surgery. When I experienced inflammation, the clinic got me in immediately and the available ophthalmologist was also very professional and courteous. With a more frequent application of anti-inflammatory, my eye pain was gone. Dr. Ambati, the staff, surgery preparation and anticipatory aftercare, and the surgical center provided the best care I could hope for.

My first visit, I waited 35 minutes to see the assistant who did all the preliminary tests but I had an appointment elsewhere and had only allowed 90 minutes for the appointment. We did not have time for the talk with Dr. A. I suggested he call me but he wanted to see me the next day at 1:30. I went and waited until 2:50 then had only ten minutes to discuss the options with him because I had a 3:15. No one apologized for the delay after I'd told the receptionist that I was in a super busy phase and had only until three. Dr. Abati was very nice and had all the signs of being entirely competent as a surgeon and good man. But later, thinking about it, I felt uncomfortable with the idea of trusting my precious eyes to a practice that did not seem to have basic respect for clients and their non-medical needs. So I decided to find another doctor. I know time is different in India, where he's from, and that retired people are assumed to have little going on, but not apologizing?
