Dr. Chavoshan, Program Director, was born and raised in Tehran. He moved to the US as a teenager and completed high school in Colorado Springs. He went to college in Orange County, first at Golden West College and subsequently at University of California, Irvine. Dr. Chavoshan obtained his medical degree from University of California, San Diego. He completed his internal medicine residency at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas, where he stayed on as postdoctoral research fellow in cardiovascular physiology. He went on to complete a combined pulmonary disease and critical care medicine fellowship at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center (HUMC), as part of which he spent a significant amount of time at St Mary Medical Center's ICU. He also has completed further postgraduate training in aviation medicine at University of Otago, Wellington Medical School New Zealand. Dr. Chavoshan is currently certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) in internal medicine, critical care medicine, pulmonary disease, and sleep medicine. After completion of his clinical training, Dr. Chavoshan went on to clinical teaching in New Zealand and the Middle East. Having returned to California, he joined the faculty at University of California, Los Angeles, with both clinical teaching and administrative duties initially at HUMC and more recently at SMMC. Dr. Chavoshan's primary interests are clinical teaching and translational research in COPD skeletal muscle dysfunction. His non-medical interests are travel, history of commercial aviation, and political history of the post-World War II era.Read more
