This content was provided by Dr. Jaramillo "Dr. Arley G. Jaramillo, is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. He is the vitreoretinal surgeon for the practice with extensive experience in macular hole repair, retinal detachment repair and membrane removals. His experience with trauma and referred complications earned him the ability to bring his skills to the Veterans Administration helping our veterans. We are very fortunate to be able to bring this level of skill and compassion to our patients. Dr. Jaramillo is a collaborating researcher at the CLEVER Eye Institute and Louisiana Eye Research Institute (LERI). He is on staff at the Veterans Hospital in New Orleans and Tulane Medical Center in New Oreleans. Dr. Arley G. Jaramillo was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico and lived in Medellin, Colombia for 10 years during his adolescence. Dr. Jaramillo is a fellowship trained ophthalmologist with expertise in Vitreo-Retinal disease and surgery. He graduates from the Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico with a bachelor’s degree in Science and Biology, were he was part of the MARC U*star Honor Program (sponsored by the National Institute of Health). After completing his undergraduate he completed his Medical training in the Ponce School of Medicine (Ponce, PR). During his medical training he was member of the National Dean’s List were only 1% of students from the nation colleges and universities are honored. He was awarded with the Novo Nordisk Diabetes Scholarship. Ophthalmology residency was completed at Tulane Ophthalmology Program (New Orleans, LA) were he was the Chief Resident and was awarded with the Tulane Eye Alumni Association Award during the Annual C.S. O’Brien Professorship for his research project. Vitreo-Retinal Surgery training was completed at SLHVCS/ Tulane Ophthalmology Program (New Orleans, LA) where he completed more than 300 surgical procedures including pars plana vitrectomies, sclera buckles, epiretinal membrane peel, retinal detachment repair, laser treatments, intravitreal injections and combined complicated cases such as phacoemulsification, pars plana vitrectomy, laser treatment and Ahmed glaucoma valve implants on the same patient. Today Dr. Jaramillo serves as Assistant Chief of Ophthalmology for the Southeast Veteran's Health Care System and is an Assistant Professor of Tulane's Ophthalmology Department."
