Dr. Angela Hutzenbuhler, MD
Dr. Hutzenbuhler earned a B.A. in Chemistry, in 1985, and a medical degree, in 1989, from the University of Kansas. She then left the Midwest and completed an internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Duke University in 1992. Dr. Hutzenbuhler (Dr. H) moved west to attend the UCLA Integrated Program in Digestive Diseases, where she successfully completed her fellowship in Gastroenterology in 1994. Being anxious to return to North Carolina after surviving two years in Los Angeles, she joined the GI division of Raleigh Medical Group in 1994. Dr. H was the first female gastroenterologist in the Raleigh area. She was a founding member of Digestive Healthcare in 2000. In 2010, she went out on her own, and started and maintained a very successful solo GI practice for a number of years. This was quite challenging, but rewarding as she taught herself all the aspects of running a medical practice. Due to upcoming major changes in the future of medicine, in 2012, Dr. H was most fortunate and thankful to be able to re-align with RMG Gastroenterology. She just celebrated her 21st anniversary of practicing in the Raleigh area. She is a Fellow in the American College of Gastroenterology and enjoys attending their national meeting annually. She recently re-certified her GI Boards in the Spring of 2015. Dr. Hutzenbuhler has been married for thirty years to her husband, David, who is a CPA and local business owner. She has a twenty-one year old daughter and an eighteen year old son. Megan is a junior at UNC-Chapel Hill, and will hopefully follow in her mother's footsteps and pursue a career in medicine. Matthew is in his freshman year at Peace University, studying game art and design. Dr. H is slowly, but surely, adjusting to her recent "empty nest". She is proud of her ability to juggle her career and family. The Hutzenbuhlers enjoy traveling, especially cruising, scuba diving, and visiting National Parks. More recently, they have broadened their travel internationally and greatly enjoyed a trip to Africa two years ago, and Greece and Italy last summer. They have visited all fifty states. They are avid sports fans; especially fond of the Wolfpack, Panthers, Hurricanes, Jayhawks, and the Royals. Dr. Hutzenbuhler also enjoys crossword puzzles, following professional golf, reading, going to rock concerts, and Broadway shows/musicals.

I have seen Dr. H for several colonoscopies and an endoscopy. I found her and her staff to be kind and caring. During my last colonoscopy, there were numerous delays at the surgical center and Dr. H came in to check on me herself. I have always had good experiences with her practice.

I was referred to Dr. Hutzenbuhler by my primary NP for chronic GI issues. Dr. Hutzenbuhler answered all of my questions. I ended up having an endoscopy and colonoscopy and was very very very anxious about the procedures. During prep for them, I was left alone for a bit and she came in to sit with me because she knew I was so worried. Her entire team is friendly, helpful and knowledgable.

I have had 3 colonoscopies with Dr. Hutzenbuhler. I have never had a bad experience with her or her staff. She immediately upon our first visit saw my anxiety about the procedure and told me she would use the pediatric scope since I am of a petite build! Thank goodness for that !

I was wheeled in early for my procedure. Woke up in extreme pain, and the nurses just rushed me out. I ended up in emergency room within 4 hours after leaving facility with a very serious condition from the surgery. This is a "factory mill" type system without any regard to patient care. There was no care or compassion; just a hurry the patient in and hurry the patient out. Most hospitals would have immediately sent me over to emergency. Instead the nurses and Dr. H just hurried me out....

My husband went to Dr. Hutzenbuhler with concerns for possible food intolerance. We were unhappy because she spoke to him as if he had the maturity of a child. The end result was a colonoscopy scheduled for a month later, a decision I wasn't entirely sure about. When we realized the paperwork she had given us had faulty instructions, such as the time scheduled to finish the medication was listed as being AFTER he arrived for the procedure, we called and cancelled the appointment. Stay away.

If there were a negative star, I would select it. Dr. Hutzenbuhler has her staff ask all questions on her behalf. Once she is in the room, she immediately will diagnose you with something before asking questions or testing you for anything. Her go-to diagnosis is IBS. She also treated me like a child, describing terms as if I were 5. She said that I am young, so my issues are likely related to stress. STEAR CLEAR. She's a train wreck. Her nurse and PA are great, however. They should quit.
