Dr. Moulton's bio

This content was provided by Dr. Moulton "Dr. Andrew W. Moulton received a Bachelors of Science Degree from the University of California at Los Angeles with honors, majoring in neurophysiology and kinesiology. His medical degree and then residency training in orthopedic surgery were both completed at the State University of New York Downstate, in Brooklyn, NY. His first fellowship in spinal surgery was performed at the NYU/Hospital for Joint Diseases. Dr. Moulton was then awarded the prestigious International Traveling Fellowship in Spinal Surgery, sponsored by the North American Spine Society. Dr. Moulton started his career serving for nine years as faculty of New York Medical College. There he trained medical students, orthopedic residents and the spine surgery fellows from the Hospital for Special Surgery. This included responsibilities for all aspects of spinal surgery, from instruction on gross anatomy of the spine for medical students to guiding research programs for orthopedic surgery residents to mentoring spinal surgery fellows in treating spinal trauma at a level 1 ER and pediatric scoliosis at a regional pediatric hospital. Dr. Moulton continues to see himself as a teacher, helping his patients understand their condition. He has particular interest in minimally invasive surgery, serving as an advisor for innovative technologies in the neck and low back. He has also been on the cutting edge of regenerative treatments beginning with stem cell basic science work done in 2005, leading to clinical strategies used today. Having served as an academic advisor, Dr. Moulton has been an author on numerous scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals. He has served on and chaired committees in the Scoliosis Research Society and the North American Spine Society focused on spinal trauma, scoliosis, and new technology. He is an editor of a textbook of spinal surgery entitled "Surgical Management of Spinal Deformities". Dr. Moulton is the president and founder of "The Butterfly Foundation", the largest nonprofit focused solely on teaching scoliosis surgery for children in developing countries. Programs have been developed in the Dominican Republic, Malawi, China, Jamaica, Vietnam, Mayanmar and several other locations, training local surgeons to take care of their own patients. This and work with other organizations has resulted in numerous humanitarian awards, including a nomination for the HCA "Frist" award in 2017."

Care Philosophy

This content was provided by Dr. Moulton "At Joseph Spine, we know that each patient's circumstance is unique and it is important to evaluate each individual with that in mind.  Personalized attention, open communication, and collaboration is the cornerstone to achieving a customized spine treatment plan designed for optimal results for each patient.

Non-surgical spine procedures are always explored to relieve back pain and correct disorders, but when non-surgical options don't prove effective, Dr. Joseph will employ minimally invasive procedures, stem cell therapy, and customized treatment plans.

Minimally invasive spine surgery allows us to provide maximum pain relief with minimal recovery time, all while increasing mobility and accelerating our patients' return to regular activities."
