Dr. Kung's bio
This content was provided by Dr. Kung "Andrew Kung, MD, PhD is the chief of the Division of Pediatric Hematology, Oncology, and Stem Cell Transplantation at NewYork-Presbyterian/Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital and Columbia University Medical Center. In this role, he oversees the clinical and research programs of the Division, with the goal of providing exceptional care for young patients today while speeding the development of the next generation of therapies for children in the future. The Division of Pediatric Hematology, Oncology, and Stem Cell Transplantation was founded in 1959 and is one of the oldest and largest centers in the country focused on treating children with cancer and blood disorders. Dr. Kung and his team recognize that a diagnosis of cancer or a blood disorder is a frightening prospect that affects not only the child, but the entire family. While he and his team are treating the child's disease, they always keep at the forefront an obligation to care for the child and the family as a whole. While the Division encompasses a personalized approach to care, it also incorporates cutting-edge technologies-such as the PIPseq tumor sequencing program-for treatment. The Division also offers compassionate support for patients and families. Personalized care at the Division includes the Center for Comprehensive Wellness, which provides integrated support services for patients throughout all stages of treatment and survivorship. Dr. Kung's research program is focused on identifying new ways to treat childhood cancers. His laboratory utilizes a cross-disciplinary approach to identify vulnerabilities in different kinds of cancer, and develops novel treatments that exploit these weaknesses. The research in this lab has led to clinical trials of promising new therapies for patients with brain tumors, blood cancers, and sarcomas."
