I have had the unfortunate diagnosis at the age of 53 and then again at age 55 of having to have rotor cuff surgery. I was referred to Dr. Kersten by another well known orthopedic surgeon given the massive extent of my injury (left shoulder) at age 53. I had 3 massive tears and 1 partial tear as well as bicep completely torn. Dr. Kersten expertise as well as his whole support staff were amazing. I chose to use a local Physical Therapy facility closer to where I live but we followed Dr. Kersten's protocol for rehab. After completion of his protocol, my P.T. was amazed at my recovery, range of motion as well as the strength I regained. When I had my second incident on my right shoulder (age 55), I went directly back to Dr. Kersten. I had 3 massive tears and a partial bicep torn. The results were the same as my first surgery... Amazing! Dr. Kersten's staff is awesome. I'm fully active with no limitations at age 56 and I only took 800MG of Ibuprofen ever 8 hrs each time for pain.

My husband has had bilateral hearing aids for many years, but recently he was experiencing increased hearing issues. Dr Kersten was able to see my husband quickly and gave him a thorough hearing evaluation. Dr Kersten allowed me to sit next next to him during the testing and thoroughly explained each part of the process to me. He expressed concerns about increased hearing loss in my husband's right ear and immediately referred us to an excellent ENT in the area. He also provides free walk-in hearing tests Monday-Friday 1-2 pm. Dr Kersten is new the Waynesville area and an outstanding health care provider who is very professional, caring, and patiently explains the hearing issues and options to both the patient and the caregiver. I highly recommend him.

Three & a half months after rotator cuff repair & I'm ahead of schedule in my recovery. Dr Kersten & his surgical team, Danielle, Amy & Barry at Southeastern Sports Medicine & Physical Therapy are excellent to work with. I would highly recommend Dr Kersten & the PT dept...I wouldn't be where I am in my recovery without them

Dr. Kersten was informative with a great doctor-patient manner. I like the way he thinks and that he does not believe in un-necessary tests and procedures. We need more doctors like him. I would have liked for him to have used the X-rays that were taken to explain my knee problem, but that was not a necessity. My only complaint was how long it took from the time we entered the office until we actually saw the doctor. We were early as requested with all of our patient information ready. The main wait was after we entered the examination room.

After careful research, I met with Dr. Kersten and agreed to an MRI on my left shoulder due to enormous pain from a shoulder injury. After reviewing the MRI (and sharing it with me), Dr. Kersten showed me bone spurs, arthritis, and bursitis issues that needed to be addressed through laparoscopic surgery (three, 1/2 inch incisions). It has been three weeks and my range of motion has increased to near normal and my pain has decreased dramatically. He's an honest and highly qualified surgeon.
