Dr. Tan joined CTCA® at Western Regional Medical Center (Western) in December of 2016. He is experienced in delivering targeted, individualized cancer treatment using the latest advances in cancer care. "Immunotherapy is not a new concept, however we now have newer ways of incorporating immunotherapy so that more patients benefit and have lower toxicity compared to chemotherapy," says Dr. Tan. "Immunotherapy drugs are designed to help alert the immune system about mutated cells so it may locate and destroy them. Although we have made major strides in the past several years, we are still at the tip of the iceberg of immuno-oncology." As Director of Cancer Immunotherapy at Western, Dr. Tan has a goal to offer more novel clinical trials investigating combinations of immunotherapy agents to potentially cure more patients of advanced malignancies. Dr. Tan completed a Bachelor of Science degree in molecular biology from Benedictine University in Lisle, Illinois. He then spent two years in clinical and basic science research at The University of Chicago Hospitals in Chicago, Illinois, investigating intracellular signal transduction pathways. He then earned a Doctor of Medicine degree from Saint Georges University School of Medicine in St. Georges, Grenada. He completed a residency and fellowship at the Saint Louis University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri. Dr. Tan has past clinical experience as a hematologist and oncologist at a hospital system in Northwest Indiana. He is also a key opinion leader and serves on several advisory boards. He currently is a principal investigator on several clinical trials at CTCA. Dr. Tan is board certified in hematology, medical oncology and internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine. He is a member of the American Society of Hematology, the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the American Board of Internal Medicine. Throughout his career, Dr. Tan has authored peer reviewed original research publications and presented his work at many lectures. Outside of CTCA, Dr. Tan enjoys spending time traveling, hiking, biking and downhill skiing. He is originally from Chicago and is a life-long Cubs fan.
