Our group's expertise also covers voice and swallowing disorders (hoarseness, acid reflux, swallowing difficulty), hearing and equilibrium disorders (hearing loss, tinnitus, dizziness), pediatric ENT diseases (tonsils, adenoids and ear infections), snoring and sleep Apnea, and head and neck tumors (cancers, thyroid masses, salivary glands tumors). Our physicians are leaders in the field of otolaryngology, and have provided ENT care in the Baltimore area since 1984. The group was founded in 1997 by Alan Shikani MD, FACS who completed his residency and fellowship at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. Dr Shikani is Director of the Maryland Nose & Sinus Center Rhinology Fellowship Program, Chief of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at the MedStar Union Memorial Hospital, the MedStar Good Samaritan Hospital and at Sinai Hospital, three large teaching hospitals in Baltimore. Since 2006, numerous ENT doctors have come from different places in the world to spend one year training as Rhinology fellows at the Maryland Nose & Sinus Center. Dr. Alan Shikani did his residency and fellowship training at the department of Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions, ranked the #1 Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery program in the United States by US News and World Report. Dr Shikani is the founder of the Maryland Nose and Sinus Center and the director of the Rhinology Fellowship at the Union Memorial Hospital (Baltimore). Since 2006, several rhinology fellows from the US and various areas of the world have come to Baltimore to spend one entire year training under Dr. Shikani and specializing in the field of rhinology, and become rhinology faculty in their respective institutions. Dr. Shikani has published numerous articles and textbooks chapters, and contributed to several innovations in the field of rhinology and otolaryngology in general. He has published numerous publications in peer review journals and books, and made numerous presentations in national and international meetings, including the American Academy of Otolaryngology national meetings and specialty rhinology meetings in the US and around the world. Dr. Shikani has many inventions and currently holds twenty patents. Dr. Shikani earned in 2003 the coveted "Maurice H. Cottle Award for Clinical and Basic Research in Rhinology" given once a year by the American Rhinologic Society for the most outstanding work research in rhinology"
