Care Philosophy: Sports played a large part in my life, when during a track meet I fractured my forearm, leading to my first encounter with an orthopedic surgeon. This early event sparked my interest in medicine, specifically in the field of orthopedics.

Biography: Dr. Gary Schmidt is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic foot and ankle surgeon specializing in post-traumatic reconstruction of the foot and ankle, foot and ankle deformity in adults and athletic injuries. He also treats patients with common foot problems, including bunions and heel pain. Dr. Schmidt has more than three decades of clinical experience and has been active in teaching and research with publication in various medical journals. Dr. Schmidt also gained valuable sports medicine experience while working with the Montreal Canadiens, Montreal Expos as well as serving as a team physician for the McGill hockey team. Dr. Schmidt performed a total ankle replacement on me one year ago. It has truly changed my life. After 15 years of limping in pain, with little results from another doctor, I found Dr. Schmidt. Dr. Schmidt is committed to providing the highest quality surgical care that reduces risk of complications, while minimizing pain and recovery time. Often using minimally invasive and laparoscopic technology and techniques, many of Dr. Schmidt’s patients benefit from reduced blood loss, fewer complications, decreased pain, shorter recovery times and minimal scarring. Since the replacement of my ankle with the latest in technology, I can already walk with grace and confidence. Pain is minimal, and I'm told as I complete my PT, it will all get even better. After earning his medical degree from the University of Saskatchewan College of Medicine in Saskatoon, Canada, Dr. Schmidt completed an internship and an orthopedic residency at McGill University in Montreal, Quebec. He then furthered his training with a foot and ankle fellowship at the Medical College of Wisconsin. After practicing for more than 20 years in Missouri, Dr. Schmidt relocated to Colorado where he provides advanced care for conditions of the foot and ankle to patients in the Denver metro area. Care Philosophy: Dr Xenos' clinical interests include hip, knee and shoulder replacement as well as arthroscopic surgery of the hip, knee and shoulder. His research interests include biomechanical testing, clinical studies in hip and knee replacement, patient activity levels after joint replacement, diagnosis and treatment outcomes of hip labral pathology and femoral acetabular impingement. Dr. Xenos has presented his research at both national and international venues. His research has also resulted in numerous publications in such journals as the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery and has earned several awards including the prestigious Founders Award presented by the Eastern Orthopaedic Association.
