After a year of pain, I was ready to have a total hip replacement. Dr. Vakil spent quite a lot of time explaining the procedure, the recovery, and what I could expect during every stage of the process.
The anterior approach is done with a small incision in the front of the leg; consequently there are no restrictions after surgery. I had the surgery at Lansdale Hospital, and everything went better than expected. I was released the following day after physical therapy and occupational therapy. Two weeks of home visits from a nurse and a physical therapist helped me recuperate quickly. The following week, I was able to drive and was back to most of my normal activities.
The best advice I received was to take the pain pills and do the physical therapy. Now after eight weeks of outpatient physical therapy, no one can believe that I had a hip replacement three months ago. I feel like I have a new life now that the constant pain is gone - thanks to Dr. Vakil and the physical therapists!
