I've seen this doctor several times for my shoulder. He has a great bedside manner and takes the time to explains things to you when you're just overwhelmed with pain. He is kind and empathetic. I have seen many surgeons over the years for different things and he is by far one of the great ones. I wouldn't hesitate to drive the hour distance to get an opinion from him. He knows his stuff and is genuinely concerned in patient education and alternatives.
I broke my humerus shaft being bucked off a horse. Dr. Highfill was professional, humble and personable. He had a sense of humor that many need in a time of uncertainty. He gave me both options for the repair of my arm and did not try and persuade me one way or the other. He was prompt to schedule surgery and warned me of any possibilities that may take place in surgery. Was personable in the office visit, pre-op and post-op.
In terms of surgery, he is very good. He is a good mechanic and puts the parts together. In terms of how he deals with his patients afterward, he needs some work. He is overly cautious about the outcome of his procedures and told my wife and I that I would have limited range after the surgery. I refused to believe him and did rehab with the idea I would get close to full range back. Within two months, I was within 5% of my normal range.
Do the surgery, ignore his prognosis.
After being misinformed on insurance medication coverage by Dr Hosick during office visit, costing me the full cost of visit and injection out of my pocket in December 2015, I became disappointed and disillusioned
by this practice. I will not recommend this practice to any of my family and friends.
Dr. Hosick performed a total left hip replacement on me on 7 November 2016. I was up in two hours and discharged by noon the next day. I stopped taking the pain medications early and did all recommended PT exercises. I am recovered completely from the surgery. Dr. Hosick did a marvelous job. He explained the entire process, answered my every question plainly and simply, and patiently listened to any and all of my comments. A superb surgeon. I plan on having him do my right knee replacement soon.
I don't feel he applied good judgement in my situation. As a result, I'm stuck with paying for a brace that is of no use. I was told that once I tried it on, I owned it. This left me with only my doctor's advice to make a decision. The doctor should have used the information available to suggest it would not be in my best interest. My pain was only moderate and occasional and the it wouldn't restrict half movement causing the pain. He could have saved me money and earned trust.
I've been working with Dr. Peltier for over a year on shoulder issues. He is doing everything possible to avoid shoulder replacement which I respect tremendously! He explains everything thoroughly and his treatments so far have kept me out of surgery. Very comfortable referring anyone to him.
He rapid fired his questions that half of them I never got to answer. His first questions, why do you feel you need to see an orthopedic surgeon?, Why did you need to go to an urgent care facility? I could not completely answer his questions without him interrupting me with a 2nd and 3rd question. I still never got to tell him what the referring doctor said. When I checked out they wanted me to make my 6 months follow-up, I didn't, apparently the pain in my bones don't qualify for care.
MRI came back showing I tore my ACL and meniscus and had to have surgery. While I was waking up from surgery he told my family the meniscus wasn't torn but it was worse then he expected. The nurse came out and told my family the patellar tendon was torn. During the follow up he I asked him about the patellar and he said my patellar tendon was fine. He said he didn't say it was worse then expected. he said he didn't work on my patellar. But the surgery center said he did. Complete liar
This doctor doesn't know what the heck he is talking about. He said my knee wasn't swollen when it is clear it is, (2x the other). He is an arrogant person who belittles everyone. Don't go to this doctor. I will never go thin again.
Visited several times over the last few years - most recently for a knee problem - turned out to be a meniscus tear. He was great to work with - helpful, kept me mobile and able to function even before surgery. Surgery went as planned - great work from the Dr and his staff.
Dr. Peltier performed surgery on a distal bicep rupture. I scoured the doctors in northern Virginia and researched the surgical procedure thoroughly. I chose Dr. Peltier because of his credentials and detailed responses to my questions. It has been a year now and I am very happy with the results. He's not given to small talk so don't expect to have a detailed conversation but he is very interested in your injury and he takes pride in fixing the injury. You can't go wrong with this doc.
Absolutely horrendous appt. Brought my daughter in to see him about concerns with her foot. She has Ehlers Danlos Hypermobility. He spent more time making her feel bad about all the meds she takes for POTS and that if she can't function at a higher level maybe she shouldn't be taking all those meds. This from a doctor who knows nothing about her & has never seen her before. Instead of helping he made her feel terrible about her situation. Will not be going back. He needs to be educated on EDS
