He fused my son's neck when it didn't need to be done and ruined his life.
After a canceled appt (weather) w/Dr. Lark, was offered an end-of-clinic appt w/Dr. Fitch (Durham @ Page Road) at 1 pm. Was told that he had this time built-in to his Thursday schedule for urgent appts. Arrived at 12:40 pm. Front desk could not find our appt. Someone from the clinic came out and spoke with me. I explained the situation. She went back into the clinic; when she returned she told me that we could not be seen that day since Dr. Fitch was leaving. Worst patient care ever!
He is caring and thorough to gain a complete understanding of the patient's medical condition.
Not very good at communicating what is going on. I felt that it was more of a way of research than helping to find out what was going on with my son's eye condition.
Continued surgery despite failure of conscience sedation. I was screaming during the entire surgery. He did not give adequate pain medication after assuring me he would. I told him prior to surgery that overseas did not work on me. I was in agony.
Dr.Buckley is THE BEST SURGEON there is !!!!!
Dr.Buckley has done a EXCELLENT JOB on my eye surgery. Dr.Buckley IS THE VERY BEST.
Dr. Buckley has a WONDERFUL STAFF...they're very nice.
Highly recommended for aortic anyeurism conditions. Dr. Hughes represents the best qualities in the modern physician, with a combination of clinical excellence & precision and an engaging, informative manner of interacting with his patients. He has a strong team of PAs and nurses that work together with him to provide patients with care that serves to save their life by treating the condition, and also to enhance the quality of their life by addressing the patient's broader medical profile.
No stars. Dr. Harrison was never there for my Mother who was the most important person in my life. She had major heart surgery and had 3 heart valves replaced. When my Mother went to see him she would see his nurse much more often than him. When she was dying he wasn't there. Another doctor had to fill in for him. I would recommend this doctor to no one!!!!!!
Amazing surgeon, with a truly remarkable team of professionals!
Dr. H was very professional and reassured me that I was in great hands. The support team at Duke for surgery and Duke Raleigh for chemo was outstanding. They walked me through the complications and remedies for chemo side-effects and the surgery was long but without complication. If you have advanced ovarian cancer, your care with Dr. H and her team will be top notch.
She is literally THE best!!! Was so lucky to have her as my OB and to deliver my first baby! She was so comforting and helped to ease a lot of my initial anxieties. You could not ask for a better OB than Dr. Gray! :)
As far as a CV surgeon is concerned, doc is a true rock star with demanding standards and extraordinary skill. Several of his fellow docs said to me 'if I was having cardiac surgery I would want him'. Thank you doc!
My father in law had open heart surgery performed by Dr Chad Hughes in November of 2012! It was a very good experience and the doctor was AWESOME!!
Kind, compassionate, expert and effective care and treatment of my wife and her non-cancerous but aggressively growing brain tumor. Her eventual death more than a decade later, in 2015, was from an unrelated illness.
Dr. Sandhya Lagoo-Deenadayalan provided my inguinal hernia repair surgery. She was thorough in discussing the procedure and the reasons she felt the surgery was necessary. She was open to my feedback and was kind in her responses. She validated and understood concerns. The procedure went very well and the staff was very kind and supportive in aftercare. Dr. Lagoo-Deenadayalan also came to check on me in recovery.
Dr Kirkpatrick explained my treatment procedure and associated risks in a very easy to understand manner. He and his staff are quite friendly and courteous...very patient-centric. I unhesitatingly recommend him to anyone needing radiation treatment.
I would not recommend this provider. She speaks over you and will not listen at all. I literally had to chastise her for this behavior yet she continued with it throughout my appointment. Very unprofessional behavior in my opinion yet I am stuck with her.
Excellent caring Dr. Professional staff. Little wait time. Very organized environment.
I have been a dialysis patient for over 20 years and have all but completely used up access sights in my arms. I started dialysis the second time in 2006 after my third kidney transplant failed due to chronic rejection. I had a local general surgeon put in a graft that only worked once and that's when I found Dr. Lawson. My experience with Dr. Lawson has been nothing short of outstanding. I really like the fact that he is so knowledgeable and confident in his ability. Definitely recommend
She is so kind and compassionate. she's willing to try unlike some doctors who say you're clinically depressed or it's all in your head. Not this doctor she goes a 100 percent!
Dr.Vaslef is an extremely caring physician -- an attribute sadly lacking by many in his profession. Following my emergency surgery he kept in touch by phone with my daughter who was unable to be at the hospital.
During my follow-up sessions, he takes the time to answer all questions in a way that I understand. He is patient and considerate.
It goes without saying that he is an excellent surgeon. But it's the other things, as above, that make him a excellent person as well.
Dr. Wallace is a supremely personable professional.
His surgical skills are exceptional and he has an extraordinary ability to relate to patients and their families in explaining the diagnosis and required procedures.
His cancer expertise and treatment saved my life. I've never met a doctor I respect more. Kind, compassionate and directly honest.
Spent time explaining my condition and treatment.
listened to me
I drove several hours to see Dr. Thielman and I have every confidence in him.
Dr. Thielman is the best always listens take his time makes you feel like he really care goes out of his way to help you. wish all my doctors were like him.
Dr. Thielman is the best always listens take his time makes you feel like he really care goes out of his way to help you. wish all my doctors were like him.
Does not listen to patient concerns. All I can say in a positive manner is that he is a good Surgeon.
I can only say that Dr. Toth walks on water!! She did my rotator cuff surgery several years ago and the recovery was quick and not as painful as I was led to believe by "others" having the surgery done by various surgeons elsewhere. I am living out of state and need surgery on the other shoulder but I won't let any surgeon but Dr. Toth touch me!!
Dr. Toth performed 2 surgeries on my left knee in 2013. Hands down a fantastic experience (well as fantastic as surgery can be!) and I would recommend her highly.
The care we have received from Dr. Toth and staff has been excellent. Our 14 yo daughter had several knee issues from birth and the surgery and follow up have been life changing. Dr. Toth was patient, listened, and did not ever seemed rushed during any of our meetings. A+ Highly recommended.
Doctor was not able to help me in a normal way and diagnosed me wrong. Afterwards no apologies what-so-ever. Go to another id doctor and make sure you will see gi doctor.
I think Dr. Nunley and his colleagues are fine doctors. The problem is that they are all nearing retirement and apparently have made the decision to take on as many patients as possible for surgery. This is fine at face value, however every surgery requires a multitude of office visits. Their Creek Road office, the office staff, and the med staff's ability to handle these office visits is totally lacking. Patients unable to get timely appointments, waiting room jammed, always excessive wait time
Not a good experience. Very difficult to obtain information from this Dr. Endovascular embolization of a renal arteriovenous malformation resulted in the loss of 1/3 of a kidney . We suspect the killing of 1/3 of a healthy kidney could have been prevented if the procedure had not been rushed, but rather examining the artery to vein shunt in more detail to more judiciously select the point of embolization to avoid embolizing healthy tissue. Duke hospital sent me home with no pain killing meds
When I went to Dr. Nunley, I was in terrible pain with my right foot. My ankle was almost touching the ground, I limped and I couldn't stand in one spot for more than a few minutes at a time. I spent years looking for someone who could help - orthopedic clinic, pain clinic, mindfulness, Physical therapy, chiropractics, exercise. Nothing worked. I went to DrNunley who knew what I needed and performed a foot reconstruction. Five years later, I am still grateful for his skill. BEST DECISION I MADE
After 2 life threatening blood clots, we got to Dr Ortel. He was miraculous. He explained every step of a year long treatment clearly. When that was complete, he then discussed at length my goals and gave me options taking those goals and my quality of life into the mix. His recommendations were spot on, and my family and I couldn't be more grateful. He is an excellent, caring physician who demonstrated genuine concern for me far beyond prescribing a pill.
Dr. James Nunley is technically very skilled. However, his interpersonal skills are very weak. As a patient of the doctor, I believe that when he looks at me he sees a condition and procedure, and is somewhat unaware that there is a human being attached. He has a supercilious attitude. His manner of responding to questions verges on dismissive. Would I recommend to family or friend? No, not because of his clinical skills, but because of his poor bedside manner.
Feel very lucky that my PCP recommended Dr Polascik to me. I feel he and his team saved my life and I'm grateful. Urologists in VA that I had seen who diagnosed bladder cancer told me they could not treat me because medicine was not available and I could basically do nothing. They closed their practice so I knew it was time to see someone else. Best decision I ever made. I only wish I had come to Duke earlier. Full confidence in Dr Polascik's care decisions.
Dr. Ortel ,
I'm a long term patient of Dr. Ortel, and I must say he's wonderful, amazing, caring, awesome, and very supported he really cares about his patients and is always there if I need him night or day no matter if I page him he always answer and he's very well manner and respectful after all I'm one of his difficult patient in a good way, I value Dr. Ortel and appreciate everything he has done and doing to make my life better Thank you Dr. Ortel your surely one of a kind #1. LaVerne
Dr. Nunley is obviously a smart guy and accomplished in his field.
My issue with him stems more from his arrogance and dismissive
attitude when a patient asked some simple and basic question on
their treatment plan. After my last visit with him when he was 20
minutes late and spent 5 minutes with me with the same arrogance
and dismissive attitude I vowed it would be my last.
I was extremely fortunate to wind up in Dr. Polascik's care. Two urologists, using conventional detection techniques, could not find evidence of cancer. My second urologist actually referred me to Dr. Polascik, stating that he was conducting research at Duke Cancer Center for early detection of prostate cancer. Dr. Polascik's technique not only detected the cancer, but he was able to pinpoint sites to obtain hot biopsies which opened the door for insurance to cover surgery. I'm cured.
Complete trust in Dr. McCann's skill and ability. Judgement is complete and great. I would trust him with my life (and have). A terrific dr. and person who genuinely cares about his patients.
Not very friendly. Was in and out of the room in 7 minutes after we waited an hour for him. He was very rude and abrupt when he came in and did not stay in the building long enough for us to ask questions. WILL NOT BE BACK.
I am extremely pleased with the ankle replacement surgery performed by Dr. James DeOrio. I had endured years of torturous pain that began as an injury during a soft ball game. Over the years I had been advised to have cortisone shots but the pain never subsided. I walked with my foot angled outward to reduce the pain. Dr. DeOrio performed replacement surgery and I can honestly say I am pain free after all these years. Thank you Dr. DeOrio!
I received excellent care from Dr. Deorio & from Duke Hospital. I had sustained an open fracture of the ankle 18 months prior. Because of unrelenting pain, Dr. Deorio performed a total ankle replacement. I found him to be an excellent physician/surgeon.....he is very caring and compassionate....he listened to me & answered all my questions. I would definitely recommend him for any ankle surgery. (I am a retired RN)
Dr D`Orio replaced my ankle joint two years ago. I was almost crippled due to an injury I sustained in 1963. I couldn`t be happier with the results and with Dr. D`Orio and his team. At the time of my surgery, he had done over 900 ankle replacements, I suspect the number is around 1000 today.
Cliff J. Judkins
Being a professional in health care you appreciate the ability of a skilled surgeon in your sudden need.
Dr. DeOrio was that surgeon for us. Not only did he accommodate us but went above and beyond to keep us from having to wait an extended period for surgery. I appreciate the fact that he is to the point and honest.
I was born with high arches, but years ago I sustained tendon ruptures and underwent tendon reconstruction.Dr. DeOrio reviewed the x-rays, told me he would recommend bilateral vantage ankle replacements with some major reconstruction. He advised me,to do both ankles at the same time with Dr. Easley operating on the left ankle as he operated on the right.3 weeks in casts,3 weeks in walking boots, and I was out walking in regular shoes. After 4 months, I’ve played 5 rounds of golf. Thanks Dr. DeOrio!
Replaced both my ankles and I couldn't be more pleased. No more pain, and an incredible improvement to everyday life. I feel like I have a new lease on life. Great staff, and efficient office.
I am a 60 yr old surgeon and have had seven previous orthopedic operations. From receptionist, to shuttle drivers, to nursing, to my surgeon I am in awe as to the compassion, personalized care, efficiency, and absolute skill that was devoted to my care. Dr. DeOrio, I have learned so much about quality care from you. I am better than I ever expected to be again. I saw ten different surgeons until I settled on Duke and Dr DeOrio. He is a humble, personable, and dedicated MD. Thk You!
My foot doctor in Georgia sent me to Dr. DeOrio because I needed the best.. The 370 miles to Duke was worth it. I have had 14 different ortho surgeries. This is the only one that had NO complications, steps backward, issues. He listened to my history, and I felt total confidence in him. We have a relative that used him Florida and then moved to North Carolina and used him again and she loved him also.
Dr. DeOrio diagnosed the problem with my ankle quickly. I had been to three other orthopedic surgeons over the last year and none of them saw the problem with my ankle. Dr. DeOrio saw the problem in the x-ray and immediately decided on a treatment plan that fixed my ankle injury that I had been suffering with for a year.
Dr. DeOrio replaced my left ankle 4 years ago and I have had annual and now bi-annual check-ups with him. I went to him on the recommendation of a friend who also had an ankle replacement with him. I trust him totally. He is very good at sharing and explaining the x-rays with me. In addition to being an excellent surgeon, he a kind, caring person.
Dr. DeOrio is one of the most compassionate and knowledgeable doctors that I have ever been associated with. From the very first visit he made me feel at ease, coupled with his expertise in performing total ankle replacements, it was a very positive experience. That was the main reason that I travelled from Atlanta, GA to Durham, NC to have my surgery with Dr. DeOrio. It is turrning out to be a great decision, as I am well ahead of schedule and walking pain free after 4 months since my surgery.
I cannot say enough good things about Dr. DeOrio. I was born with a congenital deformity, "skew foot" in both feet. I could not take a step without pain.
After doing extensive research to find a doctor (I'm a retired librarian), Dr. DeOrio stood out as THE surgeon for me. I couldn't have made a better choice. He reconstructed my right foot to a virtually pain free state, and in May of this year, he performed the "elegant", complex surgery on my left foot.
Compassionate. Skillful. Insightful.
Dr. DeOrio was our angel in replacing Jim's ankle. We were referred by Dr. Hewitt in Greensboro and are so grateful for referring us to an outstanding Dr. We were scared for what our answer from the doctor might be before we arrived.
Dr. DeOrio was reassuring and at the same time told us what could be, but his goal was to see that
Jim would have use of his ankle. We thank God for DeOrio and his staff for Jim's care and just know
that on July 24th we will be told, "get ready to play golf".
I just completed my four year check up from double ankle replacement which has been nothing less than a miracle. This was a difficult procedure that was made as comfortable as possible due to the excellent surgeons , post op care and long term follow up. I could not ask for a better outcome in any way . It has certainly been a positive life change .
Dr. DeOrio determined that my foot drop would benefit from a posterior tendon transfer. The surgery was performed 3/28/17. I was unable to walk unassisted. We are now a little over 3 months out from surgery. My physical therapist was amazed how soon after the cast/boot 9 weeks recovery I was demonstrating a nice up and down range of motion. I am now walking without orthotics. I was told the swelling would last a lengthy time and that is the only thing that I have as an issue. Thanks Dr. D.
Doctor DeOrio is the best Doctor in all aspects of his Patients care and their family needs. I would recommend him to anybody who are having feet problems.
My experience with experience with Dr. DeOrio has been nothing short of excellent. From our first appointment on examination of my right ankle he recommended Ankle Replacement as the best option for me. He was very patient in fielding all of our questions and explaining the procedure. I am always amazed at the friendliness and efficiency of the staff at Duke. Dr. DeOrio lives up to his reputation of being the best TAR surgeon in the business.
Dr. DeOrio did an ankle replacement on me in January 2017, I was amazed at the speed and efficiency of the whole procedure. I was thrilled that they contacted me of an earlier date that i could have the surgery done, great communications. I was amazed at the difference and the lack of pain from the procedure and how much better i can move after the surgery. I am very pleased with the outcome and would recommend him to anyone.
Dr. DeOrio performed a Total Ankle Replacement surgery (TAR) on my right ankle in May 2014. Three years post-op and I am doing very well. Dr. DeOrio is a gifted and compassionate surgeon who has certainly made my life better. I would highly recommend him to anyone considering ankle fusion or TAR. He has performed many of these surgeries using many different types of TAR implants providing him with a basis on which to decide which implant would most likely be best in my particular case.
I fill like this M.D. is very sure of his self and is very experienced. Dr. Easley and his staff have given me great care.
Dr. DeOrio has been great to work with, he makes you very comfortable and confident. He takes the time to explain what is happening and answers questions so that I understood them. The staff at the office off page road is great as well as the surgery center where I had my procedure done. I drove 3 hours to see Dr. Deorio and it has been well worth it. Great job and thanks
Dr. DeOrio is an excellent doctor. He replaced both my ankles and fused bones in one foot, and I have had no trouble since. I have done a lot of walking since all three operations and have had no pain. Dr DeOrio is very professional , answers all of my questions, and did further research as to why I needed so many joint replacements. From my extensive research, Dr DeOrio appeared to be the best choice for me and my choice proved to be an excellent one. I highly recommend him.
Dr. DeOrio has provided me with the best surgery and care for the replacement of my left ankle. This ankle was badly injured 50 years ago and was causing me much pain and the inability to walk correctly. The surgery was very successful and should last me the rest of my life. He is very thorough and is very pleased with the results. Dr. DeOrio always has time and answers for my concerns and is most reassuring when needed. Thank you for the time and care you have taken with me as a patient.
I could't have asked for a better surgeon or hospital to work with!
I have had both ankles replaced by Dr. DeOrio and couldn't be happier.
Dr. DeOrio is the best, bar none!
Duke hospital and surgical is a tight run ship.
Everyone that assists you is most pleasant and all seem like they love what they do.
I would recommend them always.
Tho I live 500 miles away, I've recommended Dr. DeOrio often. Both of my ankles had suffered severe sports injury traumas - one in the mid-1960's; the other in early 1970's. Ligaments were shredded. Over the decades, joints deformed & all cartilege wore away. Both were major surgical challenges. Dr.DeOrio replaced both. His superlative diagnostic and surgical skills were apparent. I can now walk without pain. I've also appreciated his care in readily responding to questions and concerns.
After a severe and multiple break of tibia, fibula and talus in July, 2014, my local orthopedic doc told me I would need ankle replacement. I researched on line and found Dr. James DeOrio at Duke Medical. I knew from my research that he was the best choice for me and that was confirmed when I met him last summer at our initial consultatuon. He did TAR 11-18-16 and I today was my 6-month check up. I'm doing great. I feel I now have my life back. Dr. DeOrio did a perfect job and I'm grateful.
My right ankle was smashed real bad in a motorcycle back in 1989 and four years later I feel of a roof and it got broke up again. over the years arthritis set in to the point were i could not put any kind of weight on it at all. I scheduled a appointment with Dr. DeOrio to see about fuzzing the ankle. He suggested a ankle replacement in which I had him do. Its been a year since the replacement. and today I walk with absolutely no pain. And might I add I am a 77 year old man. thanks Dr DeOrio
He only has appointments on Tuesday & Thursday, & just getting through the phone announcement before getting to a human is a lengthy annoying procedure. Difficult to schedule unless far in advance. If you do not want a recommendation for surgery, do not make an appointment with a surgeon.
performed an esophagectomy on me for esophageal cancer. I was a relatively healthy 46 year old prior to this diagnosis and surgery. The surgery went well but once the complications began to appear - Dr D'Amico and his staff left me for dead. To this day, I am sure that he has no idea if I am alive or dead. I was told that I would be out of work for 6-8 weeks. I finally made it back to work 1-1/2 yr later. I'm headed back (not to him) for another surgery to correct another complication.
Referral from numerous doctors for ankle joint issues. Ankle was so far gone that had to be replaced in 2013. 6'5" and 300lb and 4 years later ankle is great with no pain. Dr. Easley is highly skilled and explained the progression from surgery, recovery, and rehab in detail. Office and hospital top notch. I recommend to at minimum seek Dr. Easley for his opinion. Its worth the travel time.
The best Doctor I have ever met. So Caring... So smart and well knowledged. He has become a friend to my entire family because that is what he thinks about this patients. He removed my right upper lobe of my lung in 2003 and I still go yearly from Az to NC for my checkup as they are the only Doctors that I trust. He is always just a email or phone call away.
I had a badly deteriorated arthritic ankle that would have prevented most walking and hiking. Looking for a better solution than an ankle frozen in position in position with screws, I asked Duke Foot and Ankle specialist Dr. Mark Easley to evaluate me for a STAR prosthesis. Dr. Easley and Dr. Nunley installed the prosthesis and I recovered with full usage and flexibility for 9 years, hiking and climbing over rugged terrain. This demonstrated the most excellent, professional and pleasant result.
Doc Easley provided excellent care to me before, during and after! He tried preventative measures before surgery. My surgery went smoothly, he provided excellent care and I followed his post op instructions exactly and have had no issues. His staff is attentive and caring. A+++
I spent years seeing him on and off and he did not listen to me at all. He was dismissive and insisted I had tendinitis. Thankfully I finally requested a new doctor who listened and after a successful operation I'm finally pain free. Dr. Easley was rude and condescending.
After several surgeries in our hometown, our local hospital decided to amputate my wife's arm due to recurring blood clots. We sought another opinion which is when we met Dr. Cox. Not only did he save her from amputation but also fixed damage done from surgery other doctors had done. Now we're 3 years later and still good as new. Great doctor with great bedside manor. Cannot possibly thank him enough.
Achilles tendon rupture and detached from heel due to accident. Dr Easley was extremely knowledgeable and surgery was a success. 6 months later I was already back playing tennis - gingerly - and 9 months later back to almost normal. Pre and post surgery Dr Easley was always avail to answer questions and he really cared about my progress. I felt he truly cared.
Top Expert in treating Cancer! He will help you in any way he can.
On August 28, 2015, Dr. DeOrio performed an ankle replacement on my left foot. After my first appointment, I felt very confident in him. He and his staff were friendly, efficient, competent, and caring. He explained everything in a way that my wife and I could understand. After a thorough examination, he informed me that he didn't think there would be a problem performing my surgery. The surgery went perfectly. I was never in any pain. I could not have gotten better care.
went to see in Jan 2016,was told by second visit he could help me.Now wants to amputate
my left foot, he is not willing to do corrective surgery because it is high risk. Does not seem concerned that amputation should be LAST RESORT AFTER SURGERY FAILURE !!!
Even if success rate is 50 % I should be offered that option.THIS IS MY FOOT HE WANTS TO CUT OFF WITHOUT EVEN TRYING TO SAVE IT. I feel I deserve the option of trying to save my foot.
