He saved my life - 2 times in 12 months. The first surgery was a life saving Whipple for a large tumor blocking my bile duct. When I wanted to consider a smaller surgery, he was direct and to the point concerning the risks of the tumor being malignant and having to go back in for a Whipple anyway. He guided me professionally to go straight to the Whipple -10 days after the surgery we learned it was malignant. The second time he saved my life was 12 months later when I was in the ER at Duke with an incarcerated hernia with dying bowel. He performed the life saving emergency bowel resection. His skill is incredible and his concern for his patients is clear. He will always be my first choice when surgery is needed.

Dr. Metjian is awesome!!!! I NEVER too I could meet a doctor that I trusted so much with my health as much as this one. He is very professional, but he has a sense of humor as well. He answers your questions and explains what is going on with your personal condition. He cares about his patients. I could NEVER have asked for a better Hematology Dr.

Was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer in 2016. After chemo and radiation Dr. Zani performed the Whipple Surgery on me. About 8 hour surgery. Dr. Zani was truthful, pleasant bedside manner, intelligent, would never use another surgeon.

I would not recommend this physician. He was my mother's physician after her very capable and competent physician relocated. I was surprised by the lack of care and interest he showed in her well being. In my opinion, my mother would still be alive if she was under the care of someone else. If your loved one has serious medical issues that require diligent monitoring and an engaged physician, look elsewhere. Trust me, I wish I had transferred her to a different physician.

Dr. Zani operated on my hernia in 2014. Just two years after coming to Duke. He told me that he placed absorbable tacks in my hernia but in actuality there were metal tacks used. I had pain in my groin for two years afterwards before another surgeon had to fix the problem.

He is inexperienced and arrogant. He could not perform a very basic procedure and when I questioned him he then gas-lit me. I've never had an issue with a doctor before who could admit they weren't capable and referred me to a specialist. After I left I visited 2 other doctors including my previous one that confirmed I was right in feeling uncomfortable with his methodology. I have since switched and am glad I did for my overall health and for the procedures sake!
