Review of Dr. Shafa

- in Edison, NJ |

I'd just like to leave a 2 year follow up review. On May 25, 2017, Dr. Shafa performed a spinal fusion on my back. By the following January, I was back to playing my 40th year of street hockey. At that time I was 63 years old. I'm now 64 and in April completed my 41st year of street hockey. Later in April, my wife and I visited and hiked Zion, Bryce, and Arches (including the long hike to Delicate Arch) in Utah. My feet ached a bit, but I experienced no back pain. I can't speak highly enough of Dr. Shafa's dedication, skill, and empathy towards my pre-surgery, surgery, and post-surgery. He is truly the best.

Review of Dr. Garvey

-

I think Dr. Garvey is a good surgeon, but not very good at communicating. He tends to just give me the facts and not discuss problems that have happened.

Successful surgery. Caring, compassionate, to the point.

Review of Dr. Mehbod

-

Dr. Mehbod appears to be a very skilled surgeon and gets right to the point. He spoke about my diagnosis and his overall assessment plan with ease and confidence. However, he seemed "very put off" that I had already seen one of his colleagues for a first opinion, and a couple of times, instead of explaining something, he stated he agreed with that Dr's assessment as well and referred to those notes. Although Dr. Mehbod did answer all of my questions, I felt rushed, as if he needed to be somewhere else.

Review of Dr. Alcala-Marquez

-

When I first met him I had been in pain for over 6 months. I had to use crutches because the pain from my back was also affecting my legs. Other "doctors" looked at my MRI and said there was nothing they could do (I never even got a consult with them), even the all-mighty Mayo. My mom and sister came into the exam room with me and when Dr. Alcala-Marquez walked in he introduced himself to everyone and shook hands. Very polite. We talked and he said he could help me. I almost cried when I heard those words! My surgery was set up and afterwards, when I went to walk, I couldn't believe it, the searing pain and numbness were gone! The next year I was able to go on vacation with my kids and walk around! I thank Dr. Alcala-Marquez for giving me my life back!

Review of Dr. Mueller

-

I have never been treated so poorly. I am in constant pain daily and have been for over 5 months. If I wasn’t in so much pain, I would not have driven 3 hours to your clinic. He looked at me and pretty much told me to deal with the pain and that my orthopedic dr who sent me back to him sure doesn’t know how to read a MRI. I left the office in tears and will definitely not be back to see him.

Review of Dr. Schwender

-

Dr. Schwender is the kind of Dr. who will not operate on you if he knows he can't help to improve your life. This is a quality I fear is in very short supply in the medical world. Everybody is willing to "wait" until they can get into Dr. Schwender - and he is really worth the wait. I had a small bit of spine surgery done by him a little over a year ago and it was the best thing I have ever done for myself in my entire life. I have the utmost respect for Dr. Schwender and his personal ethics

Review of Dr. Shafa

-

This was my 5th back surgery, but my first by Dr. Eiman Shafa. When I first met him I was in very bad pain across my low back and down both legs. I am 60 years old and this battle has been going on since 1979. When I was put under I was in great pain and when I woke up it was as if he had turned off a switch. My recovery has been great, the surgical pain can not compare to what I was going through. Dr. Eiman Shafa actually gave me back my life. I have no pain in my legs or back, Thank you.

Review of Dr. Shafa

- in Blaine, MN |

There are not enough GREAT things to say about Dr. Shafa! He is kind, honest, devoted to his patients and a great surgeon. Dr. Shafa performed 3 back surgeries on me over the course of 12 months, and was amazing each time. When I had questions, he would call me on his days off to make sure that I got the answers that I needed and was taken care of! I would recommend Dr. Shafa to anyone and everyone!
