Dr. Kugelmas's Biography — Dr. Marcelo Kugelmas received his medical degree with honors from the University of Buenos Aires. After his internship and internal medicine residency at University of Southern California-Los Angeles County Hospital in Los Angeles he went to Cleveland, OH where he completed gastroenterology fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, and served as Chief Fellow in 1995. He then moved to Lexington, KY where he pursued further training in hepatology, liver transplantation, and advanced endoscopy; and remained there until 2000 as an Assistant Professor. He then moved to Colorado, where he joined the University of Colorado Liver section. Over the last 18 years Dr. Kugelmas' main focus has been on the care of patients with liver diseases. He became an Associate Professor of Medicine in 2004, before joining South Denver Gastroenterology. Dr. Kugelmas is a national lecturer on topics of chronic liver disease, has presented regularly at multiple gastroenterology, liver and transplantation annual meetings, and has published over 25 papers in peer-reviewed journals.

Dr. Pieramici's Biography — Dr. Pieramici obtained his undergraduate degree at Miami University in Ohio. He then attended Indiana University School of Law graduating cum laude. During his legal training, Dr. Pieramici focused on health care related issues and decided to pursue a medical degree. After graduating from medical school at Case Western Reserve University, he moved to Colorado for medical training at University of Colorado Health Science Center. He completed his Internal Medicine internship and residency followed by subspecialty training in Gastroenterology and Hepatology where he served as chief fellow. His areas of special interest include management of inflammatory bowel disease, genetic colorectal cancer syndromes, gastrointestinal motility disorders and health care policy.

Dr. Powers's Biography — Dr. Powers graduated, cum laude, from the State University of New York at Stony Brook and attended New York Medical College on a Naval Health Professions Scholarship. He was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. His Internship and Residency were at Boston City Hospital. Thereafter, he spent eight years in the Navy: four in Hawaii, two in a gastroenterology fellowship at Bethesda Naval Hospital and two at Portsmouth Naval Hospital, where he served as Division Head of Gastroenterology. Dr. Powers first began practice in Colorado in 1987 and has joined South Denver in 2004, after spending two years in the Philadelphia area at Villanova. Areas of interest include medical informatics, irritable bowel syndrome and advanced endoscopy. He has served the Arapahoe Medical Society as chairman of the Patient Advocacy Committee, a member of the Professional Review Committee and as a delegate to the Colorado Medical Society.
