He is an active member of the American Optometric Association, the Virginia Optometric Association, the Tidewater Optometric Society, The Orthokeratology Academy of America and the Ocular Nutrition Society. Following graduation from Optometry school, Dr. Swatts worked at the renowned Vision and Conceptual Development Center in Washington, DC. There he concentrated on Sports Vision Training, working with both the National Football league (NFL) as well as traveling overseas to perform intense vision and perceptual testing on professional athletes in England. Dr. Swatts joined Eastern Virginia Eye Associates in 2007 after working at ophthalmology practices and surgery centers in Hampton Roads. Dr. Swatts has volunteered his time at Chesapeake Free Clinic and provided services to nursing homes throughout Virginia. Dr. Swatts' services include Advanced Dry Eye Treatments, Glaucoma Diagnosis and Treatment, evaluations for Diabetes related eye disease, Cataract Pre- and Post-Operative Care, Macular Degeneration genetic testing and evaluation for many other eye diseases. He has a special interest in anterior segment disease and Ocular Manifestations of Autoimmune Disease (Sjogren's Syndrome, Lupus Erythematosus, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Ankylosing Spondylitits, etc.) and lectures about his topic locally. He is also an advocate of nutritional therapies and is an active member of the Ocular Nutrition Society. Dr. Swatts is certified in and has been performing Corneal Refractive Therapy (CRT), a non-surgical and clinically proven method of correcting myopia (nearsightedness), since 2002. With significant advances in lens technology and diagnostic technology, Dr. Swatts\' practice is now focused heavily in this area in an effort to address the myopic epidemic in children and adolescents. Dr. Swatts received the Inside Business "Entrepreneurial Excellence Award" in 2011 and has been featured in numerous publications relating to eyecare. He is a parishioner at St. Stephen Martyr Catholic Church and a member of the Great Bridge Rotary Club. He is married to Dr. Leah Ramos and they reside in Chesapeake with their two daughters. Dr. Swatts stays active by biking, swimming, yoga, triathlon and his recent obsession - Stand Up Paddle Boarding.
