Conditions Treated

Dr. Godsey says..

Periodontitis (gum disease) is one of the most common diseases in man. Approximately 90% of the adult population suffers from some form of periodontal disease. Adults lose more teeth because of untreated periodontitis than all other causes combined, including cavities. Growing older does not mean that tooth loss is inevitable. Most forms of gum disease or periodontitis can be treated successfully.

Your general dentist is concerned about your periodontal status and thought it important for you to see a periodontist, who specializes in gum disease. After graduating from dental school, periodontists study three more years to obtain a graduate degree in periodontics.

Treatment of periodontitis is a team effort and requires three players: you, your general dentist, and the periodontist. Our goal is to enable you to reach the highest level of dental health, as teeth are meant to last a lifetime.

Why Does Experience Matter?

Even specialists specialize. One orthopedic surgeon might do nothing but hip surgeries, while another does nothing but knees. If you want the best possible care, it’s critical to match your medical need with the doctor who truly specializes in treating it.
