I was raised on the mean streets of Gary, Indiana. I was an inquisitive kid and a bit of a biology/science nerd. Fun in those days came directly out of one's imagination. I recall getting on my bike and spending the better part of a summer's day riding miles from home to collect frogs & turtles, & then trying to make a pond in the back yard for them. That lasted until they simply walked, crawled, or slithered to who knew where. I kept aquariums all through high school and before long I had to get rid of them, and go off to college. There, I started studies in biology in earnest along with literature and the arts. And girls. If there was anything that was imprinted upon me in college it was the necessity and love of learning. I still truly feel that the more one learns the more one feels compelled to learn. Then the struggle that is dental school. Four years of intense single-subject-dominated learning and what happened when I graduated and started a practice? I realized I didn't know enough about dentistry! And the quest for education continues to this day, forty years later; still trying to become the master of my field of vocation and avocation. Someday I'll know everything there is to know about dentistry!
