Dr. Willhoite's bio

This content was provided by Dr. Willhoite "Dr. Laura Willhoite grew up in Claremore. She graduated from Claremore High School in 1987. She was very excited to be accepted into an accelerated dental program at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Dentistry. This meant that she got to start taking dental classes right away and graduated two years early! (Normally, you have to complete a college degree first and then apply to dental school.). So, her dental education took six years instead of the usual eight. She decided that she wanted to be a dentist when she was in the seventh grade. Her father was a dentist and she got to help at his office in the summers. She loved it and planned to be a general dentist until she took a class in Orthodontics during dental school. Having had braces herself, it was really fascinating to learn about how teeth move and what her orthodontist had been doing during her treatment. She applied and was accepted into the Graduate Orthodontic Program at her school. Out of hundreds of applicants, Dr. Willhoite was selected to be one of the four orthodontic residents! This meant an additional two years of school to learn all she could about the movement of teeth, correction of bite discrepancies, and growth modification (just to name a few subjects!) Upon graduating from her orthodontic residency in 1995, Dr. Willhoite returned to Claremore. She opened up her own practice, which is now known as Willhoite Orthodontics. She starting dating her future husband, Todd Willhoite, and they married in 1997. They have two daughters, Sarah and Kelly, who attend Claremore High School and Will Rogers Junior High School respectively. The Willhoites spend a lot of time at various sporting venues watching their oldest daughter cheer with the CHS cheerleaders. They also enjoy attending various band concerts watching their youngest daughter rock out on her clarinet! Dr. Willhoite also loves to travel with her family. They have traveled widely in the United States and have been to Mexico and Canada. "

Care Philosophy

This content was provided by Dr. Willhoite "Dr. Willhoite believes in treating each patient in the way that she would want to be treated.  This means that each patient sees the doctor at every wire adjustment.  Dr. Willhoite sees all of her own emergency patients, even after-hours, with rare exception.  Every patient has a private room rather than being seen in a crowded treatment bay.  Adult patients especially like this!  Family members are invited to come back with their patient at every appointment.  It's an excellent time to visit with the doctor and ask any questions.

Dr. Willhoite has some of the best assistants in the business.  They really enjoy getting to know all the patients and their families.  They take the time to explain what they are doing at each appointment.  They make sure to be as gentle as possible so that everyone has a great experience!  Communication is very important during orthodontic treatment so that any hygiene or compliance issues are resolved quickly.  This ensures that the teeth stay healthy!"
