Dr. Altenburg completed his dental training at Northwestern University in Chicago in 1998, earning a DDS degree. He was accepted into the coveted and rigorous general practice residency (GPR) at the Veteran's Administration Hospital in San Diego, which he completed in 1999. He was then invited to attend the prestigious endodontic program at Temple University in Philadelphia, the birthplace of contemporary endodontics. Dr. Altenburg received his endodontic certification in 2001. Dr. Altenburg is a native Southern Californian and was raised in Vista, California where he attended Vista High School before graduating from California State University, Long Beach with a Bachelor's degree in Economics. Dr. Altenburg enjoys outdoor activities, including fly fishing, salt-water fishing and off-roading with his wife and three children. Dr. Altenburg is a member of the American Association of Endodontists, California State Association of Endodontists, American Dental Association, California Dental Association and the Tri-County Dental Society. Dr. Altenburg is also the endodontic consultant and mentor for the Pala Mesa Dental Study Club and the Temecula ITI Dental Study Club. To better serve his community, Dr. Altenburg is currently an elected trustee for the Escondido Union School District.
