Originally from Texas, Dr. Mandyam’s interest in pain medicine started in high school while volunteering at the Veterans Hospital. He received his medical degree from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, home of the top-ranked pain medicine program in the United States. He completed his residency in anesthesiology at the University of Texas at Houston, part of the prestigious Texas Medical Center. After residency, Dr. Mandyam completed an ACGME-accredited fellowship at the University of Utah where he learned advanced, minimally invasive techniques in combating pain including neuromodulation, vertebral augmentation, and radiofrequency thermocoagulation. Dr. Mandyam’s philosophy to treating pain utilizes a multi-disciplinary method that focuses on restoring functionality and minimizing the need for invasive surgery. This approach has won him numerous awards including the Top Doctor Award for Pain Medicine in 2015. In addition, Dr. Mandyam has been selected to the Medtronic Emerging Leaders program in the field of interventional pain medicine. He is one of thirty pain physicians selected in the nation for this highly coveted position. Prior to joining Georgia Pain and Wellness Center, Dr. Mandyam was the Medical Director at Advanced Pain Care in Austin, Texas and also served as the Medical Director of the Tulsa Ambulatory Procedure Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He is looking forward to utilizing his compassionate approach to health care while serving patients in Forsyth, Gwinnett, and DeKalb counties. In his spare time, he enjoys travel, guitar, tennis, and spending time with his extended family in North Georgia.

He has extensive experience in treating degenerative conditions of the spine, multiple arthritic conditions, cancer pain, and other chronic pain disorders. He believes in multi-modal approach to treating pain which includes non-surgical interventional treatments, medical management, physical therapy, and rehabilitation. Dr. Patel was raised in southwest Virginia and spent significant time in Gwinnett County as a child. He attended the University of Virginia, where he obtained a degree in Chemistry with a specialization in Biochemistry. For medical school he elected to attend Eastern Virginia Medical School, graduating in 2005. He then completed a residency in Anesthesiology at the University of Michigan Health Systems, one of the top anesthesiology programs in the country. Dr. Patel finished his post graduate training at the prestigious Interventional Pain Management program at Emory University in 2010. Since completing his training, Dr. Patel had the honor to serve as Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine at Emory where he helped train future Pain physicians and participated in research. From 2011 to 2013, Dr. Patel practiced in Griffin and Stockbridge, GA . As a physician there he specialized full time in treating chronic and acute pain syndromes in both inpatient and outpatient settings. He also participated in innovative research and clinical trials to offer his patients the most advanced forms of treatment. Dr. Patel now has bought his experiences in treating the most difficult pain syndromes to his own pain center. Special interventional interests include facet neurotomy for spinal arthritis pain, minimally invasive herniated disc decompression, radio-frequency ablation for neuropathic pain, and spinal cord stimulation for failed back surgery syndrome. Dr. Patel has presented abstracts at the American Society of Regional Anesthesia meetings, as well as the American Academy of Pain Medicine. Dr. Patel also serves as community faculty at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM) Suwannee campus. He enjoys teaching the future generation of physicians and giving back to Gwinnett County. Dr. Patel is a member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, Georgia Society of Anesthesiologists, American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians, International Spine Intervention Society and the American Society of Regional Anesthesia. Dr. Puppala is the recipient of numerous awards and recognitions, including the Illinois Society of Anesthesiologists award for best original research with the world's first report of successful treatment of HIV-related polyneuropathy using spinal cord stimulation. He also received the Illinois Masonic Medical Center award for best resident research in recognition of his efforts to advance the field of pain medicine. Dr. Puppala serves on the Board of Directors of the Medical Association of Georgia, Editorial Board of the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians, Scientific Research Committee of the International Neuromodulation Society, and Board of Directors of the Foundation for Pain C.A.R.E. (Charity, Advocacy, Research, Education). He is committed to raising public awareness of issues facing those afflicted with chronic pain at the government level with the goal of improving the lives of his patients outside of the doctor's office while also minimizing the need for chronic opioid dependence.
