Psychology
PsychologyPsychology is the scientific study of mental functions and behavior. Subfields of psychology include: abnormal psychology, biological psychology, cognitive psychology, counseling psychology, clinical psychology, developmental psychology, educational psychology, forensic psychology, occupational health psychology, personality psychology, and more.
Psychologists study human activities in perception, cognition, emotion, personality, behavior and interpersonal relationships. Psychologists attempt to understand the role of mental functions in individual and social behaviors.
Trained healthcare practitioners in psychology use therapy techniques to help clients lessen the emotional impact of illness; reduce stress, anxiety and depression; manage pain; increase well-being and quality of life; and improve relationships. Therapy can be used to cope with emotional aspects of medical illnesses, life transitions, lifestyle changes, or traumatic experiences. Issues may emerge from multiple levels—physical, psychological, emotional, spiritual, and energy.

Clinical Psychology
Clinical PsychologyClinical Psychology is the study and application of psychology to understand, prevent, and relieve psychologically-based distress or dysfunction to promote well-being and personal development. Clinical psychology should not be confused with psychiatry, which has similar treatment goals (e.g., alleviating mental distress), but differ in that psychiatrists are physicians with medical degrees.
Clinical Psychologists are trained professionals in psychology who use therapy techniques to assess clients’ mental conditions and to help clients lessen the emotional impact of illness; reduce stress, anxiety and depression; manage pain; increase well-being and quality of life; and improve relationships. As part of assessing a client’s condition, psychologists may use intelligence and achievement tests, personality tests, neuropsychological tests, and clinical observation.
