Ear tube placement, or tympanostomy, is a procedure to drain fluid that has built up behind a child’s eardrums to restore the normal function of the ear. The tubes ventilate the ears, which help prevent fluid from building up in the ear which can cause reoccurring ear infections, and help reduce hearing loss due to fluid trapped behind the eardrum.
