Nature of Complaint:
The physician may have violated certain laws and regulations relating to the practice of medicine and surgery in the State of Virginia. The Virginia Board of Medicine has concluded that a substantial danger to the health or safety of the public warrants this action.
The board has Summarily Suspended the physician's license to practice medicine and surgery in the State of Virginia.
May 6, 2010-Order
The physician in late 2007 or early 2008 engaged in a romantic relationship with a patient that became sexually intimate in June 2008 and the physician failed to terminate the practitioner-patient relationship. The physician continued to function as the patient's primary care provider until approximately March 2009 when the patient transferred her care to another provider and the physician continued to prescribe medications for the patient until May 2009.
The Virginia Board of Medicine has ordered that the physician's license to practice medicine and surgery is continued on Indefinite Suspension . The suspension shall be Stayed subject to the following terms and conditions:
- The physician shall complete fifteen hours of board approved continuing medical education in professional boundaries.
- The physician within thirty days of the stay of suspension of his license shall enter into counseling with a board approved mental health provider.
- The physician shall remain in counseling for a minimum period of twelve months and shall ensure that his therapist submits quarterly reports to the board.
May 17, 2010-Suspension Stayed
The Virginia Board of Medicine has received verification that the physician has completed the board's continuing medical education requirement.
The suspension of the physician's license to practice medicine and surgery in the State of Virginia has been Stayed and the physician has a current active license to practice medicine and surgery in the State of Virginia.
April 11, 2011-Terms Terminated
The physician has complied with the terms and conditions of the 05-06-2010 Order. The Virginia Board of Medicine has terminated the terms and conditions placed on the physician's license. The physician currently has a full and unrestricted license in the State of Virginia.
