Nature of Complaint
With multiple patients, the physician prescribed controlled substances while the patients were in other pain management programs or methadone maintenance treatment programs. The physician’s treatment did not include physical examinations, diagnostic tests or procedures or drug screen to determine what drugs the patients were actually taking. In addition the physician did not contact prior health care providers or obtain previous medical history records. The physician continued to refill controlled substance prescriptions when the patients requested early refills or lost their prescriptions. The physician engaged in conduct which tends to constitute a danger to the health, welfare, or safety of the patients and the public, which is unprofessional conduct and is subject to discipline pursuant to Wisconsin Code.
The Wisconsin Medical Examining Board has issued a Final decision and Order in which the following is ORDERED and is not limited to the following.
- The physician is Reprimanded for his conduct.
- The physician’s license to practice medicine and surgery in the State of Wisconsin is Limited including and not limited to Prohibition of use of Opioid and Opiates.
- The physician shall pay the costs of this proceeding in the amount of $3,575.00.
April 20, 2011 – Order Granting Modification
The Wisconsin Medical Examining Board has ORDERED that the physician’s request for modification of the his limited license #38789-21 to permit a six month extension of time to pay the costs of this matter is Granted.
