Dr. Jacob's Care Philosophy

We recognize that good health is a blessing, and that when people have health problems it can be very unsettling. We want you to know that the physicians and staff of Urology Specialists of West Florida are dedicated to your concerns and helping you to recover your health and well-being as quickly as possible. We provide minimally invasive techniques and the most advanced technology for the ideal treatment and fastest recovery. Urology Specialists of West Florida uses the most advanced robotic-assisted technology. This new technology provides a more precise, and less invasive surgery for prostate cancer. This typically reduces the size of the incisions needed and shortens the hospital stay. If we recommend surgery to treat your prostate cancer, you may be a candidate for a new, less invasive approach to surgery called DaVinci Prostatectomy. This approach to prostatectomy provides access to the internal anatomy through five small incisions. The surgeon is empowered to perform a very precise, nerve-sparing operation with the DaVinci? Surgical System. For the patient, DaVinci Prostatectomy may result in more complete eradication of cancer, retention of bladder control and potency. We provide minimally invasive therapies for treatment of enlarged prostate (BPH) in men which are non-surgical, office based procedures that are safe and effective for treating symptoms associated with enlarged prostate. Most people resume normal activities within 24 hours. These are: Prostiva Transurethral Needle Ablation of the Prostate (TUNA? Therapy), Transurethral Microwave Treatment (TUMT) and Coretherm. Urology puts particular emphasis on the urinary tracts of males and females as well as the reproductive system of males. Urologists are professionals in the medical field of urology and their primary focus is to diagnose, treat, and control urological disorders. Office-based procedures for urological incontinence: Collagen injections and Renessa (Female), pelvic floor rehabilitation therapy. Outpatient surgical procedures for incontinence in male patient such as after a radical prostatectomy for prostate cancer: AdVance? male sling and Artificial urinary sphincter (AMS800?), slings and bladder repair (male and female). For those with overactive bladder symptoms not responsive to traditional medical therapy, we provide InterStim? therapy for urinary control. For patients with kidney tumors or diseases requiring surgical removal of the kidney we have expertise in laparoscopic nephrectomy and partial nephrectomy. We use state of the art technology and skills to remove the kidney (or a small part of the kidney) through several small punctures in the abdomen providing cure rates equivalent to traditional open surgery but with a fraction of the recovery time and significantly less pain and shorter hospital stay. There are many tools available to urologists including cystoscopy, ultrasound scanning to image the prostate and bladder, urodynamic testing to evaluate the cause of urinary problems and urinalysis.
