1 Sanction

  • Wrong-site surgery  (10/8/2009)
  • Action Taken: Reprimand
  • Summary: Dr. Charles Otto Brantigan; License # 16213

    Nature of Complaint:

Inquiry Panel A of the Colorado Board of Medical Examiners has determined that the physician's care and treatment of a patient fell below the accepted standards of practice for a surgeon. The physician excised the lesser saphenous vein from a patient's left leg instead of her right leg. The operating room staff draped the wrong leg and the physician failed to ensure that the operation occurred on the patient's correct leg. The patient was then taken back to the operating room for right lower extremity vein surgery.

    Action Taken:

The physician has been issued a Letter of Admonition by the board.
