Outcomes for all solid organ transplants in the U.S. are compiled by the Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients (SRTR) through its collaboration with the Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network (OPTN). Recipients of the Transplant Excellence Award™ are based on the most recent SRTR/UNOS data.
This award represents the first time any organization has provided third-party evaluations of the quality of a transplant center to help patients make better decisions about their care. A HealthGrades survey of transplant patients and their families found that 35% of patients find information about transplant centers online. This same survey revealed that nearly 90% of respondents believe there are differences between transplant centers and that over 93% of them said that if they knew that one center was better than another one, they would consider speaking with their doctor about other options and locations.
