he Sioux Falls Surgical Center (SFSC) was organized in October 1985 to provide same day surgery for its patients. "Same day surgery" patients are admitted, receive treatment and are discharged the same day.

In October 1996, the Surgical Center expanded its services to include a Recovery Care department. The Recovery Care department accommodates the post-operative needs of patients undergoing more extensive types of surgery, requiring patient care beyond the ambulatory setting. Radiology services for the SFSC expanded in 1998 to include MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging).
