As the Dayton area's only Osteopathic hospitals, Grandview and Southview Hospitals feature the largest single base of primary care physicians in the region, with over 2,000 employees and more than 350 physicians on staff. In Dayton alone, osteopathic physicians, or DOs, care for a quarter of a million people with over one million patient visits each year.
Osteopathic and allopathic physicians have identical treatment methods available to them, such as the ability to prescribe medication, perform surgery and order diagnostic tests. However, osteopathic physicians have the added dimension of specialized training in the musculoskeletal and nervous systems, which comprise 65 percent of the body.
