
Mercy Medical Center – Des Moines is a 917-
bed acute care, not-for-profit Catholic hospital
situated on three campuses (Central Campus,
Mercy Capitol and Mercy Franklin). Founded by
the Sisters of Mercy in 1893, Mercy understands
the health care needs of central Iowans and
is committed to providing the best medical,
emotional and spiritual care available to patients
and their loved ones.
With more than 6,900 employees and a medical
staff of more than 900 physicians and allied health
professionals, Mercy is one of the state’s largest
employers and one of the Midwest’s largest referral

vascular services, orthopaedics, cancer services,

area. Mercy also maintains a network of critical
access hospitals and health care facilities in 17 Iowa
communities, including Des Moines.
