Mercy Medical Center – Des Moines is a 917-
bed acute care, not-for-profit Catholic hospital
situated on three campuses (Central Campus,
Mercy Capitol and Mercy Franklin). Founded by
the Sisters of Mercy in 1893, Mercy understands
the health care needs of central Iowans and
is committed to providing the best medical,
emotional and spiritual care available to patients
and their loved ones.
With more than 6,900 employees and a medical
staff of more than 900 physicians and allied health
professionals, Mercy is one of the state’s largest
employers and one of the Midwest’s largest referral
centers. Areas of excellence include heart and
vascular services, orthopaedics, cancer services,
surgery, women and infants’ services, pediatrics,
diabetes services, emergency and trauma services,

To ensure outpatient health care is convenient and
accessible, Mercy provides a full range of services
at its four Urgent Care clinics, four Quick Care
clinics and 40 family practice and specialty care
clinics located throughout the Des Moines metro
area. Mercy also maintains a network of critical
access hospitals and health care facilities in 17 Iowa
communities, including Des Moines.
