Hospital Profile on Saint James Hospital and Health Centers
For almost 100 years, individuals and families in the south suburban region have trusted St. James Hospital and Health Centers to provide the most advanced and compassionate care for their loved ones. Since our opening on Thanksgiving Day in 1911, St. James has evolved from a 50-bed acute care hospital to a two-campus healthcare system with hospitals in Olympia Fields and Chicago Heights.
Our Heart and Vascular Institute offers patients comprehensive cardiovascular services including prevention, treatment and rehabilitation. And, the Patricia A. Joyce Comprehensive Cancer Institute provides a multi-disciplinary team of specialists for the continuum of patient care, from pre-treatment evaluation to post-treatment follow-up.
We follow the ideals and values of the Sisters of St. Francis of Perpetual Adoration, dedicating ourselves to caring for the sick, fostering health and providing quality healthcare for all. In keeping with our mission, St. James provides millions of dollars in free heath care annually for the indigent.

Mission of Saint James Hospital and Health Centers
Continuing Christ's ministry in our Franciscan tradition.
From the respect and consideration we show patients, physicians and co-workers every day, to the compassionate care we provide to our patients and their families, every member of the St. James team lives and works according to our Franciscan Values.
Our Values Respect for Life: Each person is treated with such joy, respect, dignity, fairness and compassion that he or she is consciously aware of being loved.
Fidelity to our Mission: We show loyalty and pride in St. James through joy and respect in ministering to our patients, visitors, and co-workers.
Compassionate Concern: In openness and concern for the welfare of our patients, especially the aged, the poor and the disabled, we work with select associations and organizations to provide a continuum of care commensurate with the individual's needs.
Joyful Service: The Franciscan presence at St. James expresses itself in joyful availability, compassionate and respectful care, and stewardship and loyalty to our mission.
Christian Stewardship: We justly and fairly allocate human, spiritual, physical and financial resources, respectful of the individual, responsible to the needs of society, and consistent with Church teachings.
