Nature of Complaint:

The physician committed gross negligence and repeated acts of negligence in the care and treatment of a patient. The physician failed to screen the patient for tuberculosis prior to initiating the patient on anti-INF therapy, failed to identify the cause of the patient's pneumonia, failed to urgently treat the patient's pneumonia, and failed to diagnose reactive tuberculosis.

The patient was subsequently admitted to a hospital in Sacramento, California where the diagnosis of tuberculosis was made and the patient died two months later despite treatment.

Action Taken:

The physician has been issued a Public Reprimand by the Medical Board of California.
