What is Addiction Psychiatry?
Addiction psychiatry is a branch of psychiatry that treats those who have addictions and related psychiatric problems. An addiction psychiatrist focuses on the evaluation and treatment of individuals with alcohol, drug, or other substance-related disorders, and of those with the diagnosis of co-occurring substance-related and other psychiatric disorders. Treatment of addiction combined with a psychiatric problem may involve medication and behavioral therapy techniques, along with psychiatric consultation.
