Dr. Hennecken comes to the Piedmont Heart Institute Physicians at Lake Oconee from University Hospital in Augusta, Ga., where he most recently served as chairman of the Department of Cardiology and director of the Cardiac Catheterization Labs. He was a member of the University Hospital medical staff
since 1996.
Prior to his tenure in Augusta, Dr. Hennecken held numerous positions of note including serving as a cardiologist with The Heart Center at Saint Francis Hospital in Roslyn, NY; director of Interventional Cardiology and the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory at Augusta Veterans Hospital in Augusta, Ga.; associate professor of medicine and director of Interventional Cardiology and the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory at the Medical College of Georgia Hospital and Clinics in Augusta, Ga.; director of the Cardiology Clinic and assistant director of Interventional Cardiology for Brooke Army Medical Center in Fort Sam Houston, Tx.; and director of Interventional Cardiology with the Audie L. Murphy Memorial Veterans Hospital in San Antonio, Tx.
Dr. Hennecken earned his undergraduate degree at Saint Johns University. Following his induction into the Alpha Omega Alpha honor medical society in 1980, he graduated with honors from the S.U.N.Y. Health Science Center in New York City in 1981. He continued his training in internal medicine at The Albert Einstein College of Medicine Bronx Municipal Hospital, also in New York, and completed his Cardiology fellowship and Interventional Cardiology fellowship at the Yale University Yale-New Haven Hospital in Connecticut. Dr. Hennecken is board certified in Nuclear Cardiology, Interventional Cardiology, Cardiovascular Disease and Internal Medicine and also is certified by the National Board of Medical Examiners.
Dr. Hennecken served in the U.S. Army for more than 14 years. A father of four, he currently lives in Martinez with his wife, Carol.
