Disciplinary actions are actions taken to punish or restrict physicians who have demonstrated professional misconduct. HealthGrades reports state and federal disciplinary actions (if any) from the previous 5 years except when a physician's license has been revoked or surrendered.
Physicians with a disciplinary action in one state will often move to another state where they may have a clean record. Since HealthGrades painstakingly compiles disciplinary action information from all 50 states, you'll know if a physician has an action in more than one state.

A gynecological oncologist consults with the cancer patient and provides comprehensive care that may include therapy, medication, and surgery, when necessary. The oncologist can act as a counselor to explain the stages of the disease to the patient.
Treatment for cancer can involve a biopsy, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, surgery, and pain and symptom management to optimize quality of life. Specialists involved with the cancer patient may be an oncologist, a gynecologist, a pathologist, a radiologist, an oncology nurse, and a surgeon.

Obstetrics and gynecology deals with disorders of a woman’s reproductive system. An obstetrician/gynecologist is sometimes a primary physician for women. The gynecologist treats women and their reproductive systems, but is also concerned with women’s menstrual problems, disorders of pelvic organs, infertility, or cancer of the reproductive organs. Some tests a gynecologist will order or administer are blood tests, a vaginal swab, or X-rays or ultrasound of the pelvic region. An obstetrician can be a gynecologist, and the two practices are closely related.
The obstetrician deals with problems of the woman and fetus during pregnancy and childbirth, and can act as a consultant to other physicians regarding the care of a patient. An obstetrician will see a pregnant woman regularly to check on her health and progress of her pregnancy. Risk factors in a pregnancy include the mother’s diabetes, a previous pregnancy complication, high blood pressure, or heart disease, and will require an obstetrician to check on a woman’s condition more often.

I am a physician who is dedicated to improving the lives of women with gynecologic cancers. I am a board-certified gynecologic oncologist who, for more than 15 years, has used my skills as a surgeon to provide high-quality and compassionate care to women with ovarian, uterine, cervical,vaginal, and vulvar cancer at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. I have special training and expertise in surgical debulking of ovarian cancer and the use of minimally invasive surgery for the treatment of uterine and cervical cancer. In addition to surgery for gynecologic cancers, I have a special interest in the prevention and treatment of cervical and vulvar dysplasia and carcinoma in situ. My years of education and training -- including graduating with honors from Harvard University and receiving my M.D. degree from Columbia University, where I was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society -- have helped prepare me for the unique challenges of caring for women with cancer. I have received honors and awards including the first Malcolm X Memorial Scholarship from Columbia University's College of Physicians and Surgeons, and the American Cancer Society's Clinical Oncology Career Development Award for my research in cervical cancer. I was named one of 'America's Leading Physicians' by Black Enterprise magazine in 2001 and 2008 and am listed in “Top Doctors in the New York Metro Area 12th Edition” by Castle Connolly in 2008. I work to improve the quality and delivery of cancer care to women on a national level through my healthcare policy and advocacy activities. I have or currently hold committee positions including Chairperson of the New York State Department of Health Ovarian Cancer Information Program Advisory Council, Advisor for Special Populations for the Gynecologic Oncology Group, Chair of the Government Relations Committee of the Society of Gynecologic Oncologists, and Delegate to the American Medical Association, where I am also Chair of the Cancer Caucus. In addition to taking care of women with cancer, my career is focused on the reduction and elimination of cancer health disparities experienced by medically underserved populations; and promoting public policy to increase awareness, improve care, and increase research funding for gynecologic and other cancers both locally and nationally.and Recognized Doctors?
