Patient / Medical Philosophy
I approach medical/ biological issues and emotional issues of the patient and family/support, as equally important. I base all medical decisions on review of all of the data and information that is generated from listening to patients' history, findings from their physical examination, and from review of their x-rays, blood tests, surgical procedures, and discussions with other health care practitioners. All this information is assessed, and decisions or recommendations are then made based on best medical practice, medical evidence, and my personal experience. All of these more concrete issues must be done in a setting that is most importantly sensitive to the extreme stresses that cancer diagnoses naturally create. I make sure to listen to patient symptoms carefully, pay attention to anxiety and depression and consider other spiritual needs. In addition, I attempt to understand and attend to families needs, as well as their observations of their loved one's physical; and emotional reaction to cancer and its treatment.
