Patient / Medical Philosophy
Dr. Goldberg practices general oncology, but has a particular interest in lung cancer and the liquid malignancies (lymphomas and leukemias). As part of the Lung Cancer team, she works hand-in-hand with Thoracic Oncology Surgery and Radiation Oncology on ways to offer optimal care for lung cancer patients. Dr. Goldberg envisions her role as an oncologist who treats the malignancy but, also see the whole patient. She is attentive to the psychosocial issues that must be endured by the patient and his/her family.
Dr. Amit Goldberg began her career at Maimonides Medical Center in 1999 where she completed her Internal Medicine Residency and later her Hematology/Oncology fellowship. Recently she returned to Maimonides as the Director of the new Inpatient Oncology Unit. The new unit seeks to optimally offer cancer care, while treating unforeseen complications which may require inpatient care. Dr. Goldberg has committed herself to building this 30-bed unit, which has a dedicated nursing staff, social support and advanced palliative care. It is the first such unit in Brooklyn.
Dr. Goldberg was born and spent her early childhood in Haifa, Israel. At the age of 7, she moved to California and later attended the University of California at Berkeley. A return to Israel was a life long dream which lead her to return to Medical School at Sackler in Tel Aviv. She found her way back to the United States and now thinks of Brooklyn as her home.
In addition to English, Dr. Goldberg speaks fluent Hebrew and has an understanding of Spanish. Other than cancer care, her greatest passions focus on animal issues and she volunteers at the Animal Care and Control in East New York.
