Patient / Medical Philosophy

My goal is to provide the highest quality of personal medical care in a warm, compassionate environment. I treat each patient as an individual with unique needs. Most often non-surgical pain management is best for you. When surgery is indicated, I then offer the most effective treatment for your condition. I strive to remain on the 'cutting edge' of spine surgery. All parts of the spine, including the neck (cervical spine), upper back (thoracic spine) and lower back (lumbar spine) are addressed. The range of problems treated includes the following: soft tissue and muscular ligament pain, disc herniations, disc degeneration, spinal stenosis, spondylolisthesis, spinal instability, scoliosis, kyphosis, myelopathy, infections, tumors, and fractures Our competent professional staff of nurses, technicians and support personnel work hand in hand with the medical staff to ensure each person's visit to Midwest Orthopaedics / Illinois Bone & Joint Institute is as pleasant and productive as possible. Other Staff in My Practice The orthopaedic surgeons on our staff are all Board Eligible or Board Certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. When you visit our practice, you'll meet a team of professionals that includes doctors, nurses and administrative staff who are focused on you and your care. You have the option to select an individual physician from our group to provide you with the majority of your patient care. Should you have an immediate problem and your doctor is not available, another physician in the group will be available to assist you until your own doctor returns. Our medial service can be reached 24 hours a day. Additional orthopaedic physicians in my practice include: James C. Cohen, M.D. Edward S. Forman, D.O. David H. Garelick, M.D. Daniel C. Newman, M.D. Scott A. Rubinstein, M.D. Charles M. Slack, M.D. Craig D. Westin, M.D. With a focus on meeting the needs of each patient, my practice also employs a wide range of orthopaedic, allied health and administrative experts. Highly trained (orthopaedic nurses; physical therapists; physician assistants; etc.) stand ready to participate in providing you with the highest quality of care. Helpful (patient billing/managed care specialists; other office staff; etc.) are also available to answer your questions, schedule appointments, etc.

Malpractice History

HealthGrades did not find any closed malpractice claims for Dr. Theodore J. Fisher, MD in the states of .

Medical malpractice is ordinary negligence by a healthcare provider which causes injury. Examples include being improperly diagnosed, treated, medicated or operated upon outside the standard of care. Standard of care is that level of care, skill and treatment which is recognized as acceptable and appropriate by a reasonably prudent similar healthcare provider under similar circumstances.

If your doctor has a closed malpractice claim in one of the states available to us, it will be listed here even if he/she no longer practices in that state. If your physician has malpractice claims from multiple states, evaluate the information for similarities. It is possible for multiple states to report the same claim because physicians are required to report all claims during the state licensing process.

Just because a physician has made a settlement (a claim settled out of court), it does not mean that he/she is a poor quality physician. Claim settlements may occur for a variety of reasons which should not necessarily reflect negatively on the physician's professional competence or conduct. A settlement payment on a medical malpractice action or claim is not a presumption that medical malpractice has occurred.

A malpractice judgment is a court order for a physician to pay a party a certain amount of money. This official decision by a court may or may not be based on a jury verdict; however, it is a conclusion that a civil wrong has occurred, typically based upon a preponderance of the evidence presented.

If your physician has a malpractice claim, evaluate the information and make a determination. You may want to use this information to start a discussion with the physician.

Note: HealthGrades obtains physician information from a variety of sources. Some information that is not designated as HealthGrades verified has been reported by the physician.
