Dr. Cooper has an international reputation in the field of radiation oncology. He is a respected researcher with more than 150 peer-reviewed contributions to medical literature. His papers include two landmark studies of combined radiation and chemotherapy in head and neck cancers in the New England Journal of Medicine. Dr. Cooper serves on the editorial boards of three medical journals: the International Journal of Radiation Oncology Biology Physics; Head and Neck and Oncology.

Dr. Cooper also served as an elected member of the Executive and Steering Committees of the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group and the Executive Committee of the American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC). Additionally, he is a past-president of the American Radium Society, the oldest society devoted to the study and multi-modality treatment of cancer.
