Care Philosophy
Dr. Brenda Hoffman’s primary interests are in endoscopic ultrasound and therapeutic endoscopy, which also includes the diagnosis and treatment of patients with gastrointestinal cancer. The physicians at the Medical University of South Carolina have been pioneers in the development of endoscopic ultrasound, not only used in the gastrointestinal system, but also in evaluation and staging of lung cancer and other malignancies outside of the GI tract. Dr. Hoffman treats many esophageal diseases and risk factors, such as Barrett’s Esophagus, which is a common risk factor for esophageal cancer.

Dr. Hoffman’s current research interests are related to proteomics in sys fluid analysis. Every protein in the body can be run through a devise called a mastrecoscopy which allows physicians to analyze protein patterns for cancerous and non-cancerous states. This can be used to tell if people have esophageal cancer just by performing a simple blood test. Listen to an audio introduction by Dr. Hoffman to learn more. *
