Sanction Description: Arthur F Santiago, MD, Lic# 52276Nature of Complaint:
The Board received information from the Morris County Prosecutor's Office and Randolph Police Department that Dr. Santiago had been arrested and charged with DWI, Possession of Marijuana and Obtaining Controlled Dangerous Substances by Fraud.
Action Taken:
The Board ordered and Dr. Santiago agreed to surrender his licenses for a minimum period of 3 months from the date of his entry into treatment.
11/03/04 Reinstatement of Licensure.
Dr. Santiago’s license to practice medicine and surgery be reinstated with the following conditions:
- He is to maintain absolute abstinence from all psychoactive substances, including alcohol, unless prescribed by a treating physician aware of his substance abuse history for a documented medical condition and in the usual course of the treating physician’s medical practice with the notification to the Medical Director of the PHP.
- He shall continue his involvement in the individual and group aftercare program sponsored by Dr. Washton in collaboration with the PHP.
- He shall continue to submit to random twice weekly urine monitoring until such time as Dr. Santiago has attained one full year of documented recovery and thereafter, the frequency of his urine monitoring will be reduced to random weekly.
- He shall continue documented attendance at AA a minimum of three meetings a week.
- He shall ensure that the PHP supplies quarterly reports to the Board regarding compliance and progress.
- Dr. Santiago has been approved to work in the Rahway, New Jersey private practice of his father R.N. Santiago, M.D. His father and C. Valerie Santiago, R.N. have been approved as his monitors in the workplace and agree to report any evidence pf a relapse within 24 hours.
