Bradley Robert Byce, DDS License # 3934-15
Nature of Complaint
For approximately a two year period ending in August 2008, the dentist diverted from his dental clinic for his personal use thousands of tablet of Lortab brand of hydrocodone, a schedule II controlled substance. On August 19,2008 the dentist was confronted by his partners and admitted to taking the missing Lortab and being dependent upon it. The dentist admitted himself for a 28 day inpatient drug and alcohol treatment hospitalization and successfully completed on September 17, 2008. At the request of the US Drug Enforcement Administration, on September 2, 2008, the dentist voluntarily surrendered his DEA controlled substance privileges and registration number. On September 18, 2008 the dentist began his follow-up AODA treatment, which he has continued. The dentist’s treatment provider at AODA wrote to the Division of Enforcement among other things “ In my professional opinion, Dr. Byce is capable of conducting himself professionally while maintaining sobriety.
The Wisconsin Dentistry Examining Board has issued a Final Decision and Order in which the following is ORDERED and is not limited to the following.
- The dentist’s license to practice dentistry in the State of Wisconsin is Indefinitely Suspended.
- The dentist’s suspension is Stayed with terms and conditions, including and not limited to Required Treatment, AA/NA Meetings, Sobriety, Drug and Alcohol Screens and Practice Limitations.
- The dentist shall pay the costs of this proceeding in the amount of $575.00.
