After orthopedic surgery, some physicians screen for blood clots in the leg although there is no conclusive clinical evidence to support this practice. Consequently, in less than 1% of hospitals, this may contribute to higher than expected complication rates for that hospital, which may impact its rating, as screening can find blood clots that would not otherwise have been found.
